 Hello all,
I am wondering and trying find some deaf activities happening in my area. If anyone knows of any please let me know I would appriciate any heads up. Thank you

Hey, welcome to AD! :D Anyways, Seattle has several events, but I don't know about Tacoma since I don't live there. Seattle has Jullians social on 1st Fridays, Starbucks on 1st Saturdays, Northgate deaf social 2nd Fridays, ASL social in Starbucks in Bellevue on 3rd Fridays, CSCDHH silent games also on 3rd Fridays, Deaf coffeehouse social 4th Fridays. Any more questions, go ahead ask me. :) I live here in Seattle.

Hi Sequoias, nice to meet you. I am in East Wenatchee, so I am kinda in the middle of anywhere. We were in Seattle yesterday, and found some information, and a resturant, but did not get to go as it was late. I am really needing the practice, and was hoping to find someplace maybe where deafpeople might hang out. I thought maybe the U district by the college but we did not make it that far. Thought maybe some srudents might have some place they like to go to unwind, school work or like i said just hang out. I really appriciate your reply thank you very much

Hi Sequoias,

I found the times for the 2 Starbucks deaf events in Seattle as well as the Bellevue one at deaf coffee, but I was just wondering what times do they meet at the Northgate Mall?

Thanks,

Teg

Oh, and I also forgot to ask, I saw how the 2 Seattle Starbucks' meet on the 1st saturday, and the 4th friday, and Northgate Mall meets on the 2nd friday, and Everett Mall on the 3rd sunday. So this would be the like the 4th friday of the month? not every 4th friday? I was wondering this because the Starbucks in Bellevue says "every 3rd friday", so is this the 3rd friday of the month, or every 3rd friday like this friday, then 3 weeks from nows friday, etc. I hope you understand what I am asking and can give me some answers!

Northgate mall social is on 2nd Fridays starting 5:30 PM...BUT best to come at 7 ish pm because more people come in around that time. Yeah, Starbucks in Bellevue is tomorrow at 7 ish PM, it's at bellevue square mall. Deaf Coffeehouse social is on 4th Fridays near Greenlake at 7 ish pm, too. I didn't know there was a social event in Everett Mall, wow! Hope those info helps.

Thanks alot! I just hope I can make it now, im just trying to find one of my friends who wants to go with me. LoL

Wierd night.....

I went to the Bellevue Starbucks tonite for the Deaf get together, and I felt rather wierd and left after only 5 or 10 minutes. As far as I could tell, I didnt see any Deaf or HoH people, only ASL students. The students I did see though werent using ASL properly. For example, I watched two hearing girls "signing" when all they really did was fingerspell every word. One girl asked her friend "w-h-a-t k-i-n-d o-f c-o-f-f-e-e d-o y-o-u w-a-n-t?" and she fingerspelled every single word.... wierd... From what I could tell, nobody there was Deaf, although one of the two girls fingerspelling every word had a slight monotone voice, so I believed her to be Deaf or HoH, and then I saw her fingerspelling everything and not signing. Strange... I did see a small group of people signing, but I felt like I would feel akward and out of place if I joined them since I didnt know them. Did I leave too early and some Deafies showed up later? Not to mention my father wanted to go, so he went with me, and he knows absolutely NO sign, and doesnt understand Deaf culture, manners, etc. so I felt wierd with him being there. I plan on finding someone from my class to go with me next friday to the one in Seattle, and maybe there will be some native signers or at least people who use signs at this one? LoL

VercuaSalt,

I'm from WA state, too. There is a deaf community called TACID (Tacoma Area Coalition of Individuals with Disabilities) in Tacoma, WA. Hope that helps. :)
