Search continues for 4-year-old's ear implant

I doubt that dad will find it and if he did would it still work after being in the water and sand all this time ?

You mean deaf people can hear without technology?!?!? You do know that a study by JOHNS HOPKINS indicated that 95% of implantees use ALL the typical dhh accomondations, so your assertation that CIs provide "like hearing" functioning is FALSE....Hearing people don't use FMs, ALDs, closed captions and pretty much all those other accomondations.......Technology IS help..And it's LIMITED! If its so great then how come people are constantly searching for a cure so they don't have to use CI/HA?

You have this thing where you read everything with a certain filter that causes you to fail to understand what you read or what a person is about. It really has gotten as old as your attempts to impersonate someone who is knowledgeable about hearing, what constitutes appropriate fitting for someone who wants to hear (or have their child hear, which is none of your business until you have a child of your own,) or cochlear implants.

Your energy would be better spent learning to express total positivity toward every implanted child in accepting them as normal...implant and all. None of that "love the sinner, hate the sin" bullshit involving directing negativity towards a part of the child or their parents. They will get enough of that from ignorant idiots at various points no matter what. There is no excuse for it coming from you in any form at all. Implants are here to stay as is any advancement that furthers hearing.

Just like gay marriage.... Nobody is telling you that you have to get gay married just because they do. Don't kid yourself that being deaf is like being gay, though. You don't have folks waking up one morning suddenly craving gay sex. Whatever age deafness occurs at, it's because a body part failed or didn't form. Most deaf people, except for those who have never really had or understood hearing, would opt for a cure. Not so with gay people.

I like that post twice BP!!!

DD is worse than a broken record, a broken bad record. Like listening to Milli Vanilli skipping o_O

It will never be found. The kid is 4 years old and probably hated wearing it and tossed it in the water or flushed it or something. And the difference between him hearing with it and not hearing without it is as different as night and day if he really lost it or dropped it wouldn't he have picked it up or told a parent right off the bat??? My ex's son has a moderate loss and wears BTE hearing aids and hated them with a passion and even put them in a freezer once to avoid wearing them to school. I don't think implanting a child that young is right anyways its a crutch for the parents to try and raise them "normal" in my opinion instead of getting them into a deaf program.

I think if one is brought up around deaf people, deaf friends, relatives etc. they might have different beliefs then people who never have come across a deaf person. I think some parents just don't understand ASL, deaf schools etc. The first thing their doctors probably tell them is about CI's. My youngest daughter asked me the others day what I would have done if she was born deaf. I told her I would have had her get a CI. She said thanks mom and gave me a thumbs up. It's just what we know. I don't see any difference in getting her glasses or braces. Of course we would learn ASL but I believe technology is a great thing and it makes peoples lives easier. It has for me as I can not expect everyone I know to learn ASL just for me. Also reading what a lot of deaf people have gone through growing up makes me believe CI's are brilliant.

I think some dolphins found the implant and one day will figure out a way to use it against us!

Please tell me you are just trolling.
Without my CI I can totally still communicate as long as I'm signing with someone who knows ASL AND I'm wearing my glasses.
I hate wearing my glasses but I wear them and have worn them since I was 4. (My parents didn't know I was visually impaired until I was 4)
Are you against people who wear glasses to be able to see signs?
I'm willing to bet that most culturally Deaf (who are also actually audiologically deaf) people wear glasses at some point in their lives.
You don't have a cochlear implant and you can't have one because as I recall you have mild to moderate hearing loss.
You have a choice whether to hear or not. Many people don't.

You choose not to hear and that is ok. Stop judging people who choose to hear or provide their children with the ability to hear.

These types of post just bring out the ugly side of some people on the forum. A family's medical and education decisions are private and their own affair. It's sad that people can't wish a family well without stopping to kick sand in their face....

I hope someone will be able to help them....

My friends N5 was at a bottom of a lake for 2 weeks until some Police Drivers got it out as a training exercise, surprise surprise, it was still working, just a bit slimy. He was very shocked that it was still working.

But can't we make this all about how cochlear implants are killing Deaf culture and the parents are abusive for providing their child with the opportunity and tools to hear? (So much sarcasm).
If someone who claims to be all for the "full toolbox" approach to deaf education is against cochlear implants they are lying. A full toolbox would include all the tools required to get the job (in this case education) done correctly. Not just hearing aids for environmental awareness.

When I worked at recreational program for children who were d/Deaf and kids who had disabilities, we would sometimes go on field trips. One day went to one of those indoor playrooms withe tunnels and the balls and crap...yeah, I know...but anyway we went there and one of the youngest kids <maybe he was 6> lost his aids in the balls. I honestly don't know why the program supervisor didn't have him take them off for playing on the equipment. It was my first year there. He was a strong signer, I think the only Deaf child with Deaf parents, in the program. So all of us spent a good half an hour searching a vat of plastic balls for HA's. Yup, we found 'em!
