Scientist creates deadly, untreatable flu

Wow. Scientists are spilt on this. I honestly am scared of exposure even if reassurances it wont escape the lab.

But I see the other side of argument. Its possibly a way to get cures and vaccines to understand virus es better. Yet at what price though.
 
If this fell into the wrong hands they could it to start a biological warfare
and I think it was nuts to had made this public for this reason.
 
You wonder what goes through these peoples minds when they come up with something like this or why they would even do it. All the samples should be destroyed and the paperwork related to it also, just so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. If anything should be blocked from peer review it is something like this. This guy is dangerous!

it won't. a very common irrational fear.

the virus will simply die outside the lab. that's why you rarely hear (or perhaps never heard of) a biological attack... only an accidental leak from a lab but that is also extraordinary rare. it's just much simpler and cheaper to use a couple of suicide bombers with IEDs than to obtain this deadly flu and release it.

The work was carried out at Wisconsin University's $12m (£7.5m) Institute for Influenza Virus Research in Madison which was built specifically to house Professor Kawaoka's laboratory, which has a level-3-agriculture category of biosafety: one below the top safety level for the most dangerous pathogens, such as Ebola virus.

Professor Yoshihiro Kawaoka of the University of Wisconsin-Madison attempted to increase the transmissibility of the H5N1 bird flu strain by genetic manipulation and repeated infection in laboratory ferrets, an animal model of human influenza. H5N1 is highly lethal when it infects people, but in the wild it is very difficult to transmit from one person to another and is usually caught by direct contact with infected poultry.

biological warfare can only be conducted at government level. it's pretty much virtually impossible for terrorists to do it - no money. no resource. no equipment. nothing. government does and I pray that there isn't a rogue government mad enough to do it because it's basically a suicide mission. that's why even North Korea or the most evil country wouldn't do it.

biological warfare = total annihilation

I don't see how this thing can be used to mind-control people... chance is 90% of Americans never heard of this nor care about it.
