Hello there.

I tried to find any thread is about schools vs schools but I can't find it anywhere. I guess it might have not anything in the Parenting Section. So I created this thread to discuss and debate, I think it might be pretty interesting.

Well, welcome to Schools vs. Schools debate! :D

I know there are three different school types for education system. It's usually up to any parent(s) that what they want to do best thing for their kids. At my former job, I was told by workers that a few people preferred to choose a public school and explained their reasons. I understood that. Some friends picked a homeschooling system for their kids, and some were favor in private schools only, too. I understood their personal purposes for their families and kids. I personally support all parents' choices for general education and their kids, besides, I am neutral to all three schools: public, private, and homeschool. I'm now kinda of stuck with three options, so I'm not sure what I want do best thing for my future kid. It would be nice to help me to make a decision for my future child by listening this thread. Yes, I know I am not a parent yet... I am just curious what your opinion/thought on any one of three kinds.

EDIT: Yes, deaf schools does count. Also, please read this if you are not sure what thread is about.

* Are you oppose to or favor in a public school? Why or why?

* Are you oppose to or favor in a private school? Why or why?

* Are you oppose to or favor in a homeschool? Why or why?

* Anything that you want to say something about schools?

Please keep this thread clean, thank you. :)

Debate & discussion begins!

I am for public schools.

I don't like the elitism of private schools.

I think homeschooled people are not prepared for the harshness of the world.

Hi
I think no kind of school is the panacea. For example, I would have liked to be homeschooled, because of my difficulties at school : too much background noise, the children not tender one another, always being rejected.... Mom couldn't stop working for financiary (or money) reasons, and she is against homeschool : too cocoon, not enough socialisation....

Another kind of debate can be interested : specialised school or classical school for disabled children ? Well, neither one nor the other solution is the panacea. If I hadn't been in the classical school, with hearies children, I wouldn't have the level I have in languages. But being in a deaf school may have saved me a lot of problems, like background noise problem (since we are 15 children, not 30 !!)

It seems that Botti and I share the same views.

Adding to the private school bit: I think some companies/corporations/schools take private schooling too seriously.
"Where did you go for elementary? Our lady of Fatamia? Praise to be you"

Yes, deaf schools are inculded. I forget that. I edit it soon.

EDIT: You can pick more options than one option for the vote :)

One thing though.. KarissaMann, I feel there is an issue that may be confused later on in this thread. Giulia spoke of it already.

Some of the schooling is situational. Like a homeschool for someone with musclar dystrophy, being in a public or private situation nowadays is hard for someone like that.

So they might not have the advantage schools can offer for the regular kids.

That's why I think the topic needs to refer to which type of students you are referring to, otherwise there's the concept of situational that needs to be applied if we're referring _any_ student.

We will assume that this is pertaining to normal kids, without mental issues nor a physical issue that makes them incapable of performing smoothly in public/private schooling.

I'm in favor of public schools

I oppose homeschooling and private schools.

Hmm... I noticed some more AD'ers are oppose to private schools or homeschooling.

I wonder, why?

I support parental choice of schooling.

My daughter attended one year of Navy daycare kindergarten, two years of public elementary school, two years of homeschooling, and the remaining years private Christian school. Her sons have attended private Christian school and public school. She wanted to give the public schools a fair trial for a few years but was greatly disappointed in them even though her kids attended the best local district schools. She is now homeschooling them.

I've sub-interpreted in various public schools. I wouldn't recommend them. However, it should be up to the parents to decide what's best for their children.

I have no problem with home schooling. But I think that private schools steal money that could be used for educating all children instead of a very few. I also think that it pulls the smartest and wealthiest kids out of school and leaves the poor and average children behind. Imagine what a great education our children could have if parents who pay tution just donated half that money to their local public school! Also, wouldn't it be great if schools were actually totally integrated instead of still seperated, but now instead of by race (though many still are) by money.

But what if instead of pulling your child out and spending your money on tution, you had worked to improve the local school? That way all children get a better education, not just yours.

I think picking schools depends too much on the situation. In my case, my mom put me in a private school for 2 reasons: 1) for me to use the smaller classes so it's easier for me to lipread the teacher/students and 2) this was Miami, not all but a lot of public schools in Miami are kind of not up to standards plus you need a very tough shell. The middle school near my house where I grew up often has bullies threatening others with knives.

Personally, I prefer public schools, although I loved my private school. I would take both into consideration for my child, if I had one.

I think there is some misuntderstanding about private schools. Private schools are not just for the wealthy. There are inner city private schools supported by donations, and private Christian schools, supported by their congregations.

The private Christian school that my daughter and grandsons attended had a few "wealthy" kids but most were middle class. A few would be considered "poor." The church provided scholarships for the poor kids. Most families pay their own tuition by making financial sacrifices. We were one of those families. One of my daughter's schoolmates arrived at school every day in a white limo driven by her body guard. My daughter's car pool arrived every day in our very old, barely-running used car. A few times I actually had to push it part of the way. I opened up the trunk with screw driver, and always carried containers of car fluids and water with me. My daughter wore yard sale school clothes. We scraped and scrimped to pay for her schooling. Many other families do the same thing.

The kids attending her Christian school were of all academic levels. They weren't the "smartest." Some were physically handicapped.

Why should parents who send their kids to private schools donate money to public schools? We already pay taxes to public schools that we don't even use.

If the Deaf schools accepted hearing CODAs, I would put my children there.

As for now, they attend public schools since I am too poor for expensive private schools and I dont believe in homeschooling for my children.

Public schools don't want input from Christian parents. :(

They do accept our tax money. :)

Public schools do get a benefit--they get our tax money but they don't have to spend it on our children.
