School!?

Yeah, I'm not totally bashing FM. Just trying to make the point that its not absolutly vital. I really think that people need to experiment and see if its helpful or not.
CD Meggers, you said you have one for personal use. What situtions do you use it for?

I never use my personal Comtek system, as I have no need for it (my grandparents purchased the system for me years ago, used it at church in sunday school a few times). And I only use the Phonak system for listening to DVDs or music without distractions. I don't have a need for FM at work or anything like that. Even when I tried to use the FMs in college, it just never worked out well so I gave up on them.

I give my teachers my fm system but I only actually activate it or turn it on from my ha unless i need to. It just sucks that one of my teacher pretty much flat out refused to wear it!..I thought that was really rude of her, seeing as she's indian.with the heaviest accent ever...but i guess some ppl are just like that ...

Is there a process at your college by which you can complain about her? Don't let her get away with it. If she has that attitude toward you then she probably has the same attitude to all students when something requires any understanding or effort. think of yourself as doing a favour to them.

Oh I see. I was just wondering b/c I know of hardcore AG Bell types that promote in home use of the FM. I mean I can undy how it might be useful in classroom situtions, but out of the classroom?!?! Just can't see any point. Oh and trust me..........most dhh kids dump FM eventually.
Listening to music? How does that work? *curious*

I plug the Phonak transmitter into my CD or DVD player, or even the computer, and put the FM receiver boot on my HA, switch to FM setting and hello music or DVD! It's perfect for listening to the music. I have the Microlink HandyMic from Phonak (don't think they sell them anymore).

Oh so basicly a ghetto Direct Audio Input set up.

basically, yeah. It's my preferred method of listening to music or DVDs, then I can't hearing anything else going on and I pick up on more words too.

Ghetto, except that it's way better - same sound quality (as far as I can tell, anyway) and wireless. My roommate is incredibly jealous - wireless headphones for hearing people are fairly pricey. Not that my FM wasn't, but I needed it for other reasons, and the music is just a nice side effect.

I sometimes use it in the car, too. My left ear is better than my right ear, or was before my CI, so when I drive, it's sometimes hard to talk to passengers.

That's what i do as well with my fm system. And when im in the car i have bluetooth on my fm so i can turn my bluetooth on my phone and if my phone rings while i'm in the car i can answer it using the button on my fm system. SO my ha is the "bluetooth headset" and my fm mic is the part i talk into and voila no hands! It's handy cuz i hate driving and answering the phone..i usually cant find it in my purse:s lol
