Does an Apartment Complex have the right to tell a deaf person they will not accept phone calls from a tenant...that they have to email only?

Seems to me they don't want to deal with any Relay Calls....:hmm:...do I have a right to complain?

Probably, but I don't know why. I try to do everything by email. Clear understanding, and a record of everything you or the other party say.

I recently ran into this issue with the VA ... They were worried about legal issues of going through someone else...
 
Probably, but I don't know why. I try to do everything by email. Clear understanding, and a record of everything you or the other party say.

I call for any repairs and today needed a change of AC Filter...and a new front door knob. It's been 3 weeks that I turned in these repairs.

Most times when I do email I never receive a response!...So whenever I call...they make a note of it or check the work orders....

So that's why I'd rather call....:hmm:...needless to say, I felt somewhat "insulted"...:giggle:...and hiked my hinny down to the Office and told them so!....

Got an apology...and I feel like I don't have to apologize myself for going thru the Relay (told them that too).....

If they are short-staffed...(as they say they are at times)...wellll...sorry!...

Yes...so it the Bank and a lot of other businesses...so I opted to get someone to call for me...and then they said...She needs to say her name on the phone...or things like that...

It's the hazzle of it all...and I do not and will not depend upon someone calling for me when I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself...
 
I would think you have a right to complain , and not every person has an email address. I know you have one but this is wrong to assume you do have an email address.

Yeah people don't answerer emails right away , it would be wise to do both call and send emails . You can made copies of your emails you send to your landlord. I was told by a lawyer you should leave a paper trail when doing something this so you have proof you contact the person.

Apartment complex? I thought you were in a house?
 
You have the right to communicate with anyone in real time. If they dont like relay calls then, tell them to download a 24/7 chat program to communicate with you, or something of the like. It then concludes that the easier option for them would be to go with your preferred means of communication. In the end, they will willing comply.

Agreed... Although have not had this issue with bank or with businesses before...
Never hurt to try, if you feel that you have been wronged and I can see how that would be, then tell them...
There are a lot of people that holler with a lot less reason, and get thier problem resolved... But not saying anything results in nothing happening...

No reimbursement necessary, Caz...an apology was sufficient...And yes, I will make more calls if needed...:giggle:...Strange tho'...emailing these days?...People say that's taboo and out..."nobody emails anymore"...mainly text...

Don't know about other cities...
 
I prefer to email over call. I don't use a relay so I normally need someone on the line with me, normally my husband to help me understand. But I hate when my husband tells them I am HoH and can't talk well over the phone and they get mad at him for paying my bills. I am like really, I want to give you money but you need my permission to take my money? Crazy. I am finding that you can do less with emailing now. Some businesses don't even have an email address.
