Sarah Palin Quits

I get your point, OB. And I'm not in disagreement. My post (and TWA's response) was about that there has been so much controversy about providing sources and links on this forum that Pek was actually right to ask for one. At this point I'm offering no comment on the rest of his post - just about the sources/links issue, that's all.

The request for the link is small potatoes compared to the rest of it. There's a saying.. "If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all."

In order to bolster his opinions about Palin, he put down a group of deaf people. That is far and above more agregious to me than neglecting to provide a source to a statement. You can always edit a post and insert a source link, but you can't "take back" hurtful/rude remarks. The fact that a deafie made those remarks about other deafies is shocking.

Sorry, but accuracy does matter.

Maybe you'd better read it yourself.

I never said that Palin didn't hunt. I said that she didn't hunt from planes or helicopters.

I am not surprised that you see things that aren't there. There is no proof that she hunts from planes or helicopters.

[AVENGERS: Well, I hope for you. You know, we have a lot in common because personally one of my favourite activities is to hunt, too.

PALIN: Oh, very good. We should go hunting together.

AVENGERS: Exactly, we could try go hunting by helicopter like you did. I never did that. Like we say in French, on pourrait tuer des bebe phoque s, aussi [translation: we can kill baby seals also].

PALIN: Well, I think we could have a lot of fun together while we're getting work done. We can kill two birds with one stone that way. ]

This was taken from the phone call between Sarah and the pranker . At one point the pranker said "we could try go hunting by helicopter "like you did." I
never did that" Sarah never said she DID NOT hunt from helicopters ! So this show to we the Sarah does hunt from helicopters! the "you" is Sarah!

Bingo.

Play nice, people!
Or are we here to play a game of donkey and elephant: the off-road chase (and green trees/plants for the minorities) ?

I don't understand you sometimes.

No, but I am hoping to avoid another "be nice Bottesini" note from the moderators.

I guess if you want me to froth at the mouth a little I could.

U are silly!

If you notice, the prankster said a lot of false statements that Palin didn't dispute, so that doesn't prove anything. Most of her replies seem to be made in a way to avoid offending the caller.

This was also in the phone call:

AVENGERS: Gov. Palin, I love the documentary they made on your life. You know Hustler's Nailin' Paylin?

PALIN: Ohh, good, thank you, yes.

AVENGERS: That was really edgy.

PALIN: Well, good.

Since Palin didn't deny the porno film by Hustler was about her life should we assume it was? Of course not.

There is no proof, so that's why you're resorting to creativity.

That's why I was saying I was offering no comment to the rest of Pek's post as I said in my previous post. I merely noted that TWA is new to this forum judging by his post count. I figured he didn't have a good idea of how much controversy goes on about providing sources and links, and he was sarcastic in one of his earlier posts - saying something like "wow, did you figure that out yourself, Einstein? I think it was pretty obvious to everyone by the QUOTATION MARKS that the article was a cut and paste." That kind of comment wasn't necessary as far as quoting goes, and I just wanted to emphasize that links and sources ARE necessary on this board. That was the only part I was referring to, and I think I had made that clear. My opinion on Sarah Palin was already noted on a previous page.

I will NOT vote for former Gov. Sarah Palin if she tries to run for President!

Actually, my sarcastic response was a direct affront to Pek1's comment that "he could obviously tell that WDYS did not write the post him/herself, etc. etc." and then tacked on the comment about all Deaf people not understanding the need to correctly cite sources. It was written condescendingly and overly-authoritatively, and I was simply throwing that attitude back in his face, which he absolutely deserved.

Anyway, I think we're in agreement here on both counts: I absolutely agree that citing sources is necessary and important (As a writing instructor, it would be highly irresponsible of me to condone plagiarism.) And I think you agree with us that Pek1's comments were over the top. So I think we can all agree here and move along. Sound good?

overly-authoritatively ???

Professor, I do not believe this is an hyphenated word. :nono:

This is not directed at you, TWA, but I see the opportunity here to reply.
Any comments I may make are my own. I do not need to provide links and footnotes. I have opinions. I form them the same way as everyone else, by exposure to words, experiences, and media presentations. I am not college educated, but telling me that my comments, without backing from a website or news source, are unworthy of being important, is pure folly. I will post what I feel. There is no need for footnotes. I have lived a full life. And I can bet there are many more like me here.
To those that feel the only intelligent life is someone that agrees with your point of view....enjoy your fantasy world. I respect everyone's right to agree or not. To attempt to prove your way is right, by using your journalistic skills, is a sad result of your education. You paid many thousands of dollars to be a bully on AllDeaf? What a waste.
