Ha, paranoid much? The subtitles/CC are on the way for the MP movies.
Um, paranoid?
No, I just know what Microsoft is up to. So do a lot of other people. Microsoft isn't exactly a trustworthy company, they've been known to mislead their customers on several occasions. Sony has such a reputation too, but they are clearly pushing for the Blu-Ray format as they've invested in it. If you would just look up the information on Microsoft and its support for the HD-DVD format. You will notice that they aren't exactly crazy about it, they have made it clear that they intend to deliver online contents (movies, music, etc like Apple's iTunes). So therefore, they support the inferior format in order to overthrow Blu-Ray and sink both formats. They knew that Blu-Ray would get a boost because of PS3, this is why they came out with a HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox 360.
Apple is more likely to be the first one to deliver CC/Subtitles since they are enabling the use of CC in Quicktime in the upcoming OS X upgrade this year. Right now, no movie rental/sale stores on the internet offer subtitles/captions with their movie downloads including Xbox Live and Apple's iTunes Store.
If Microsoft is planning on bringing CC/Subtitles to Xbox Live, can you at least provide an URL leading to an official confirmation of such a thing?
I'll like to see it.
And you can't honestly tell me your naked eye can tell the difference between HD-DVD & Blu Ray.
Well, that obviously wasn't a question. You just decided to put the words into my mouth which is inappropriate. All I did was tell you the facts of what both formats are capable of. What HD-DVD can do, Blu-Ray can.
What you don't realize is the fact that Blu-Ray is capable of using uncompressed soundtracks. This is something HD-DVD has a hard time with as they already have to watch the video bit-rate for the video due to the lower rate. HD-DVD use 'lossless' compression but it's only lossless in theory, it's still compressed. The reason why many studios has resorted to using the VC-1 compression is because of its low bit-rate, though it has been noted that VC-1 has a tendency to soften the picture quality which isn't a good thing. VC-1 has been used on both formats with some titles, mostly by Warner Bros.
The higher the bit-rate, the easier it is to push the quality to a higher level. Blu-Ray movies are already on par or above HD-DVD in terms of video quality especially as they are getting the hang of some new codecs such as AVC. I've watched a few recent Blu-Ray movies and they definitely are getting better. 'Crank' and 'Open Season' are two good examples. Just to show you what they can achieve over a period of time in making proper HD masters.
The reason why HD-DVD is a troubled format when it come to movies is due to the fact that Toshiba is the only big player in the game. Who else is backing it? Sanyo is hardly a major player, they sell bargain players. Blu-Ray has Sony, Mitsubishi, Samsung, Hitachi, LG, Sharp, Pioneer and more. All of these supporters are bringing out Blu-Ray players.
HD-DVD may survive on as a data format, but not a video format.
That's from a month ago and the information is even somewhere outdated. It has been confirmed by Neilsen/VideoScan Data that Blu-Ray softwares (movies) are outselling the HD-DVD by 2 to 1. Before PS3 came out, HD-DVD was outselling Blu-Ray by 3 to 1. Now it's changing at a rapid rate. Quite a big difference in just 2 months. It's quite remarkable, I have to say.
I'm just a casual movie goer and the same goes for your average person. However, I take my videogames seriously and I can tell you that the X360 owns the PS3 in this department
Apparently you aren't aware of my reputation here when it come to movies. I couldn't give a hoot about which console offer better games. I do occasionally play games, but I'm not just that into them. To me, it's time-consuming and I have a life. I prefer to play the top-notch titles, always has been like that.
The porn industry picked the HD-DVD and it's almost a death spell for Blu Ray. But do I care? LOL, no, because they don't make videogames.
A misconception, already mentioned it in my previous posting.
Don't call me a fanboi since I owned every console there were after the Atari 2600 except for the Neo-Geo, Saturn & 3DO (which sounds a lot like the PS3 in both price range & ease of development) and I'm sure I know what I'm talking about when it comes to the games themselves.
Guess what? I have an Atari 2600 too. Even though I don't play tons of games, I do regularly read the latest news and buzz on video games as I always keep an eye out for AAA quality games. I would advise you to reserve your judgment before you declare that PS3 is a piece of crap. Guess what? I didn't buy PS2 despite its success due to the fact that it had a lower-class DVD drive when it first came out. I also recall that developers had a lot of difficulties developing the first few waves of PS2 titles just like the PS3 developers are experiencing right now. You see, it's a new type of processor. A powerful processor from what I read, it takes time for the developers to learn the basics and tricks.
Now that you mentioned the pricing. I'll have to remind you that Xbox 360 isn't exactly cheap either. People nearly soiled their pants when the prices for two different packages were revealed. Now PS3 is an extra $100, however the real bargain is that it come with a Blu-Ray drive.
Easily worth the price. Not only to mention the nosedive in the prices of standalone Blu-Ray players that's coming later this year due to more supporters coming on board including major optical disc manufacturers.
Enjoy using your PS3 as a stand alone movie player.
I am perfectly satisfied with it, I don't see why you had to get so emotional and started spewing out all sort of misinformation about the HD formats. It's obvious you didn't do your homework.
I'm sorry, but I think you've made it quite clear that you're a Xbox fanboy. You resorted to insults, spewing out misinformation and getting personal is crossing the line of being a fanboy. It's not a pissing contest, so get a grip. Being a fanboy is the worst thing you can be. Just because you owned every console doesn't mean you can't be a fanboy.
I'm just here to point out the facts and base my opinions on my knowledge of MS, Sony and other corporations and their history.
To repeat, Blu-Ray is not owned by Sony. It's owned by BDA (Blu-Ray Disc Association). So stop assuming that it is because there's not a shred of truth to it. MS/Toshiba don't own HD-DVD either, they're just a part of the DVD Forum.
