Star freshman Sen. Marco Rubio may be playing down his interest in the vice presidential nomination publicly, but the Florida Republican is taking the requisite steps to prepare for taking the slot.

For example, Rubio’s political committee has shelled out more than $40,000 for investigators to look into negative attacks that could emerge against him, Politico reports. This month, he asked the Florida Commission on Ethics to dispense with a complaint that he misused Republican Party and campaign money “to subsidize his lifestyle” while in the state Legislature.

And last week, Rubio announced he is pushing up publication of his autobiography to June. That will create positive publicity for the rookie senator before the Republican National Convention and allow him to get his story out before a likely less-flattering biography is released in July, according to Politico.

Ana Navarro, a Republican fundraiser and Rubio friend in Miami, said, “Marco’s saying all the right things, because nobody who wants to be vice president should admit it. But he’s bound to be on the nominee’s shortlist, and he’s smart to prepare for it now. If he does get asked, it will be very hard to say no.”

That'll help get a lot of Latino votes should he get the nod.

No doubt. I think he is the key. Rubio + Rising gas prices might just give us a chance.

No doubt, I believe he will be the key. Am hoping he will be asked, and surely accept the VP nomination...he's very well-liked here in Florida.

Politics can change in the blink of an eye....

Anyone but Gingrich.. gawd what a fat puke. is he limbaughs brother?

Agree....never liked Gingrich and would not vote for him. Dunno know about the "brother" question to Rush....Not too keen on Romney either or any of the others.

With Rubio on, it would salve a lot of wounds of those not too crazy about Romney.
