The Rays worked so hard for it. They went from being the worst team of the league to the best in one season!!

So, Hell Yeah!!! I'm rooting for them and I live near the Bay area!!

They won 1983 WS Champ and I didnt witness then witness most stupid pitcher, Mitch, allowed Carter HR in 1993... Its time for me to witness win WS right now plus alot Philly fans are desperate to see one of any Philly sports teams to win champ to elimante 1983!
 
I cant wait till see Phillies kick Rays' ass tonight!!!!! I have been hyped and crazy since last week to start WS!!!!

Hmm no Farewell.. the Phillies won the 1980 World Series.. and lost in the 1983 WS vs Baltimore... I have the list of the WS appearances by the Phillies posted here in the post above... and yeah 1993 was unbelieveable for the Phillies as well as Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams.. when he tossed that ball and Joe Carter whacked it out of the park all I could say was holy shit and jumped and hooted for the Blue Jays (sorry, man!!) and was smiling from ear to ear..

Now yes, the fans in Philly want to see a champoinship title brought there finally after so many years....it might come true, unless TB break all the Phillies' hearts as well...

In reading the past posts in this thread regarding the historical values and statistics of the teams is completely irrelevant now. Obviously nobody on the phillies who played in 93 is on the team now. Tampa bay has never gone to playoffs until this year. But that is irrelevant. Both teams are here for a reason and both played very good teams in the Divisional and League champion series. Both these teams earned their right to belong in the world series because of a lot of factors, not just historical fate.

I think I have hard time predicting outcome of the WS. Both pitching staffs are even and well rounded, including bullpens. In the ALCS, Boston did expose the previously dominant Rays bullpen, so we'll see what happens there.

Philly does have ample well seasoned and experienced players. The pressure and "nerves" factor definately matters, although Tampa and their young talent have shown to have nerves of steel in their young age and rose to the occasion quite well against Chicago and Boston.

Defensively, both teams had exactly 90 errors comitted in the regular season which is pretty good. I do give the outfield defense to the Rays because of the tremdous defensive talent and lightning speed of all three positions in outfield.

Starting pitchers for philly have all had good outings in playoffs and have Good left handed pitching. Hamels, has terrific stuff, GREAT change up and future CY young winner. Following with Myers, Moyer, and Joe Blanton. Myers a typically average starter has arose to the occasion and had major effects on outcomes of games and for some reason or another has decided to be a hitting threat at the plate too. Moyer, very experienced yet at 44-45??? is still vulnerable to be beat on. If he locates his pitches well he could very well have an important role in the outcome of game 3. Joe Blanton whom Philly aquired from the A's is better than this years statistics show. I believe he was 5-12 before trade to the Phillies and went 4-0 in 11 starts since being with phillies.

Pitching for Rays is a craps shoot, they are very young although very talanted and resiliant. Scott Kazmir and James Shields are both legitimate aces, and Garza and Andy Sonnanstine are better than average 3 and 4 starter pitchers.

I have difficult time believing any game in the series will be blowouts. Both these teams like to start out explosive and get leads in the first inning. I'd be watching very closely the 6th and 7th inning in every one of the games where transition to bullpens and strategic formats materialize with relievers. Allthough we don't have the Boston's, Cubs, Yankees, Braves, Dodgers in the WS, I encourage all to watch who does have interest in baseball and I feel this will be very good series with tremendous talent on both teams clashing to claim the glory.
 
Gotta agree with Doug on this.. this series gonna be something exciting and nerve-wrecking to watch.... TB is sure favored to win the WS but Philly also could be a good choice... so both of the Rays and Phillies could give us a memorable October World Series ever.... BUT the best thing is we dont have to see the horsecrap Yankees there at all year after year... we have had different WS champs since the Yankees won in 2000.. so best thing ever for us not to see the Yankess trot out championship after championship to shove down our throats all over.. blah....

TB in 5 or 6 and be the first (I think) MLB team to from last place in one season and win the World Series the following year!
 
Actually in 1991 both the Braves and the Twins went from worst to first and into the world series. I don't in fact know which one actually had the "worst record" the previous year. But either way it is a feel good story when a franchise which has struggled for various reasons or not, then succeed and reach the top. I do not have any favorite in the world series and am entirely objective to the results, statistics, and my opinions. I do love when there is parody in sports and many teams have a shot at "winning it all" which is why baseball needs to have salary cap not just collective bargaining issue with luxury tax that goes distributed between the "lesser" franchises.

When Phillies def Dodgers to entered WS and at Philly, already riot and crazy (400k fans blocked multipe street, look at below pic) and finally police send them home like 2 am or 3 am, some of them stay up till Phillies arrived Philly International Airport from LA

I aint surprise Phillies fans would gonna crazy when Phillies def Rays tonight cuz next 3 games will be at Philly

I aint surprise there will be more fans block street when Phillies win WS Champ and wait till they march on same day or next day (hopefully next day so I can have some time to catch bus to ride home for march celebration)

As Doug mentioned about Atlanta and Minnesota in the 1991 WS, that they both went from last place in their respective divisions in 1990, here are the stats...

1990 Atlanta 65-97 (26 game behind) in NL West Division, Minnesota 74-88 (29 games behind) in AL West Division

1991 Atlanta 94-68 (NL West Division Champs), Minnesota 95-67 (AL West Division Champs)

So Atlanta had the worst record in 1990 and went up all the way to that record in 1991 enroute to the WS vs Minnesota....

Tampa Bay (at the time Devil Rays) had a 66-96 record and was last in the AL East Division and then changed nicknames and did the impossible, won the AL East Division with a record of 97-65 so it was amazing.. btw Tampa Bay in 2007 was last overall with the worst record.... amazing huh?
 
Looks like TB will take Game 2 tonite... that is if they can hang on for a 4-1 win... Philly did ruin the shutout with a hr in the top 8th inning.. dang... so far TB rebounding back good...

Now Game 3 in Philly for this Saturday might be delayed or moved due to rain and etc.. geez....
