As I was driving my daughter to school this morning, I was looking at all the little kids walking to school and it struck me that not one of them rode a bike. I realized that I havent seen kids riding bikes to school in a long time. When I was a kid 30 years ago, almost all the kids from my neighborhood, including myself, rode our bikes to school and lock our bikes at the bike rack at the school.

I am curious..do kids ride bikes to school anymore?

No I haven't see any kids ride bikes since I left elementary school! My son's school isn't allow have bikes on their school property. Kids will have to walk to school. My son take bus though. :)

My grandson rides his bike to elementary school during good weather. Many kids at his school do that.

My baby nephew rides his bike to his school. He lives across the school. He would ride the bike to school when weather permits. My oldest nephew rides the bus or one of his parents drives him to school. He lives too far from school. Oh well. If he lives closer to my baby nephew, they could ride their bikes to school together.

my son's school, permit bikes there, but not need to be lock, since its very small town, only elmentey this town, and only about 450 ppl live in this town.

Very few kids ride bikes to school anymore. I dont know why. I work in a school (police officer SRO at jr.high). The school I am in has 1000 students and maybe 10 of them ride bikes to school. I just thought that kids were getting lazy. God forbid they voluntarily exercise. It would do them some good to ride a bike. Were you aware that 20 % of elementray school kids already have arterial blockage and hardening due to poor diet and no exercise? Yes 1 in 5 kids are well on their way to having a heart attack.

My oldest son rode his bike when he was in jr high and now he's in high school, he rides his bike during spring when the weather is nice and warm....He loves doing that instead of riding on the bus....Soon my second son will too when he reach to Jr high..

Wow that's neat, I wish my son didn't have to put a lock on his bike either...

When I was a kid we walked to school. When I was in elementary school, the hills were too steep for bike riding (you struggled uphill, and couldn't stop going downhill). In junior and senior high school, girls had to wear skirts or dresses, so it wasn't really convenient for bike riding to school. It was only one mile, so I just walked most of the time.

My neighbor called Children's Services on me because I allowed my 10 year old son to ride his bike to school 2 blocks away and with other kids from the neighborhood. She said that Deaf kids shouldn't be allowed to ride bikes because they couldn't hear cars coming! Can you believe some people? LOL

That's quite amusing, I have to say. Stupidity never cease to amaze me.

Yea, it does common in before 80's but not anymore.

We aren't allow to ride on school bus, same applied for students from high school and middle school, except for handicapped that need get approve from parent or IEP meeting. Most students from high school and middle school are ride on metro bus, their parent to drop off, walk to school and some high school students are driving the vehicle to school.

Fuck to school bus...

i never ride bikes to school i dont know why but im been school at Kansas School for the Deaf but im sure have policy at KSD

when my brother walk to high school in Cabot,Ar he can walk to school and after school between

I used to ride bike to school when I was 11 years old to 13 years old. It was an 30 mins from home to school (takes 10mins for car ride from home to school).

I didn't like is riding bike in the rain as it takes longer to use the brakes on the bike to stop.

I will never let my son ride bike to school because many crazy or sick people around. I rather drive him to school and pick him up after school. I don't have any complain about driving him.

My daughter rides her bike with my grandson, so he doesn't ride to school alone. She enjoys the fresh air and exercise.

yea..there are pros and cons to riding bikes to school.

Exercise is the #1 pro for riding a bike

Dangers is the #1 con for riding a bike

I wish I can let my daughter ride her bike but her school is off of a very busy highway. I think that is probably why the kids at her school dont ride bikes. Probably not allowed.

About the kids not getting enough exercise...I agree with that. I think video games, Internet, and TV are the biggest reasons. I also think fear of abduction is another factor.

Your neighbor needs to take class in deaf studies! I cant believe that. I rode my bike everyday to school and I am sure nobody gave a second thought of calling Children's Services on my mom. Wow...if your neighbor had said that to me..I probably would be in jail. LOL!

Ah deaf kid cant ride bike to school. Geez what a wacko. I am hoh and have rode bike to school about 2 or 3 times a year when I was in the middle school. Duh. It was about 5 miles from my home and I enjoyed it alot. Riding along the bike path on the side of the beach was great.
