Same reason people still do worry about drunk drivers even though it's illegal. Just because it's illegal doesn't mean the problem magically disappears.

I don't understand "deaf thing"? Based on what?

This post is still related to cell phone and sign language. Let's hope that this technology does come to fruition sooner rather than later. But then again because many people do text while driving, then it stands a good chance that many Deaf drivers would try and sign and use the phone while driving at the same time. And that's not good. Right?

Cell phone with sign language is VERY inaccessible while driving and far more dangerous than texting while driving so I doubt that deaf people will use like that.
 
even with texting, I can not read someone's text without taking my eyes off the road.

I have to either be at a stop or pull over to read.

Some people claim they can send text back without looking down at their cellphone (they claim they can stil keep their eyes on the road), but I think this is very dangerous. people also can do the one hand sign without looking at the phone as well. but for some reasons, I think sending someone a text without looking is more dangerous than signing to someone (using one hand) and talking. I think they are more likely to lose focus on the road when they start typing, even if they can type without taking their eyes off the road.

But reading and watching someone signing while driving are both equally dangerous.
 
As cellphone is banned in West Australia, that is include texting, even at stop at red lights to use cellphone/pager for texting or hearing people to call is also banned.

There's catch 22... hearing people can use hand free/bluetooth to call or talk on cellphone while driving.

So I reckon if there was a cellphones for sign language, I reckon very few Deaf people will use hand free and use sign language to communicate, it probably will be hard to watch the cellphone and the road while driving.
 
yeah, deaf people need to use both hands on the steering wheels.

The bluetooth is really no difference than if you have a daughter sitting next to you, talking to you.

My husband have to turn his head alot to talk to me...while driving

if he could use the one hand sign, I suppose he never have to worry about turning his head so I can read what he is saying.

well, what I mean is you can't really drive with one hand all the time and that's what holding a cellphone does. Driver manual books will tell you need both hands on the steering wheels at all time as possible. I didn't mean to sound like both hands have to be glue to the steering wheels.

I don't use both hands so ofter for many years. I still use one hand for turn left, right, and rear.

w/ Camfrog Access with me I saw she Crashed whiles i chat with them while he drive.

His Rugged Laptop didn't damaged, because it have strong metal laptop from Military...
