If you currently wear two CIs OR a CI and a hearing aid in the opposite ear, you may be eligible to participate in a research study being conducted by Kristi A. Buckley, Ph.D., CCC-A at the Center for Hearing and Deafness at the University at Buffalo.

The study examines how the brain is able to combine different sounds in each ear. The results from this study could lead to improvements in fitting procedures for bilateral cochlear implant (CI) and/or bimodal users.

We are looking for individuals between the ages of 18 to 65 years who wear either two CIs or a CI in one ear and a hearing aid in the opposite ear. The study consists of one visit to the University at Buffalo South Campus (Main/Bailey campus). Should you choose to participate, you would be asked to complete hearing and speech tests, similar to those performed at regular audiological evaluations. In addition, you would be asked to listen and respond to different sounds by pushing a button. During this time, a cap with sensors (electrodes) would be placed on your head to record your brainwaves in response to these sounds.

This testing will NOT affect the function of your CI(s) in any way!

The study would take about 3 to 4 hours to complete and you would be compensated for your time. If you would be driving between 50-200 miles each way, we would also reimburse you for mileage. We recognize the need to schedule appointment times based on your schedule and will work hard to arrange a convenient time for you to participate.

If you or anyone you know have any questions regarding this study or would like more information, please feel free to call Christina Lobarinas or Jennifer Pyo at (716) 829-5561 or email us at ListeningWithTwoEars@gmail.com.

The study is still underway. Please contact us for more information.

PFH: Gee still testing on this important matter- Cochlear Implants-- they aren't as dogmatic as you. Surprised?

Implanted Advanced Bionics-Harmony activated Aug/07

We are still looking for more individuals who are interested in helping us out with our research. Please send us an email (listeningwithtwoears@gmail.com) or give us a call (716-829-5561) if you would like to see if you would be eligible to participate!

If you are currently using one cochlear implant and would like to participate in a study, please contact us to learn about our other studies!

Happy Holidays!

how do we know you are not a scam?
I don't know. Don't you think they provided enough information as it is to indicate that they're probably not? Those that are scams are usually more discreet in providing their contact information and so forth.

You seem to be a perfect candidate for this research, why not donate your body?

Yeah when it hit you at home, especially the abusers you thought you knew turned out you don't know them at all.... I have always thought they were great people and it just shocked me. You get paranoid who you meet online.

They are out of my life for good. I should have wrote predator instead of trafficking but I guess back in my mind is dealing with adults instead of underage. Anyway the point is be careful who you meet online.

We understand about your concerns regarding online safety and we would like to take this opportunity to inform everyone that we are not a scam. We are students at the University at Buffalo completing our research project under the direction of Dr. Kristi Buckley. You can search our names on the University's website for authenticity (University at Buffalo).

We posted on this forum in hopes to bring awareness of our study to individuals who would be interested in helping us out learn more about how individuals with cochlear implants process sound information. The information we acquire from this research may be used to help clinicians and cochlear implant users and potential recipients make a better informed decision on the use and fittings of cochlear implants.

Thank you for your time and attention. We do hope you would consider participating if you are within traveling distance. In addition to being compensated for your time in the study, we do reimburse for travel mileage if you live 50-200 miles (one way) from the University at Buffalo.
