What sort of reptiles do you like? I had to start a new thread as I was berated in the other thread about going off-topic...ehh...I hope I haven't upset them, ha.

Anyway...I like snakes (non-poisonous ones of course), lizards...

I would love to hold a large monitor lizard! :) But I'm content with the blue tongued lizards I have now. :D My hubby's lizard is called 'Max' (short for Maxllimus Biaggi, italian bike racer on the MotoGP) and mine's 'Val' (short for Valentino Rossi, another italian racer, heheheh)

My mum in law has had an almost life-long phobia about holding snakes and crocodiles...until last week when she went up to Queensland on a holiday with Dad. Went to Currumbin Sanctuary where a lot of people are allowed to hold quite a number of different species of wildlife. Mum gathered up enough courage and held a baby crocodile and has a photo to prove it!

I took care of a red tailed boa snake years ago (remmy Java?) -- we'd feed the snake live rats...at first, I found it disgusting watching the snake catch the rat and squeeze and then eat it. Then after a while, I was used to it. (sort of!)

When I was young..I remember being taken to a rattlesnake show in Texas where they ended up showing what they do with rattlesnakes.

An example would be doing a milking on a rattlesnake...getting all the poison out into a jar so it can be used to create antibodies.

Another example was that they showed us how they skin a snake. Also there were samples of rattlesnake meat. (yes tastes just like a chicken seriously!)

There was even few performers (mainly men) who would go into a room (with glass walls) full of a lot of rattlesnakes. A man would walk around picking up the snakes....even you could see few snakes rattling their tail whenever he got close to them. He also held a balloon in his mouth and got close and let a snake strike the balloon.

It was all fun. :D

*shivering* Some people find it thrilling to do something dangerous like that, unless it was pre-planned -- in having all the rattlesnakes de-venominised (is there such a word for that? :P ) Take all the venom they have -- like removing the sacs they have behind the fangs in their mouths?

FARKKKKKKKKK.....still shivering! :P Poisonous snakes scare me...it's only the non-poisonous ones that I don't mind. :)

After it's milked...it's ok if you handle the rattlesnake..it's only nonpoisonous now. :p

I know...I know....still, seeing those fangs that once were teeming of poison gives me the heebie jeebies!

lol I understand...when I was a kid..I did find that a kind of wonder.

Even everytime my father would catch a snake..I would ask him to milk it...not realizing that rattlesnakes are easier than most of common snakes are. :p

In what way are rattlesnakes easier than most common snakes? Catching or handling them?

The milking part...the rattlesnake's fangs are long and very curved. Strong enough to not bend while pressing against a cup edge.

Most of common snakes would only stick out straight and would bend easily when the force is applied to the glands which are further inside behind the fangs.

Hmm...quite interesting! Sounds like you've had heaps of experience handling all kinds of reptiles...especially snakes, hey? I'm just learning about how to raise Blue Tongued lizards. :) Just fed mine some cat food out of my hand. Cool! :)
They actually do have BLUE tongues!
Here's a linkie to information on blue tongue lizards. Enjoy! http://www.bluetongueskinks.com/

Oh yea, I have seen one of those at a friend's house. He kept it in an old fish aquarium tank with sawdust.

I just vaguely remember it.

If you tried to get it close to me, I would use the flamethrower at it as well as you are since you hold it.

Heh...I have my lizards in an old fish tank as well...with pebbles on the bottom. We used to have an Oscar fish named 'Hannibal' - actually 2..first one choked on a live fish and died. The 2nd one just starved himself to death. Dunno why. :(

The Oscar fish is a distant relative of the Pirhara (spelling, crap!)
