Remember the day you got your first Closed Captioning Decoder?

I can't remember but we had brown box with red number.. I think it must be late 80's-early 90's when my family lived in a trailer park... I was maybe 8 or 9 years old. I will have to ask my mom when I see her again...

CC 2 sometime around 1885 or so. I was glad to ave it, but didn't watch much TV then.

 You meant 1985 and not 1885 ?

( Actually, it does say alots about technology for Deafies in 100 years :) :thumb: )

I remmy i got mine for xmas in 1981.. the big brown box. I never forgot how many times i would have to walk up and flip the dial that makes clicking sounds like cliiiick cliiiick cliiiick... until i got tv built in cc.. gave the box to my grandparents since they were going deaf to due old age, it ended up going to salvation army I think....

Caption decoder

I rarely watched TV so I was unaware of decoders until about 1987, when I purchased mine (Sears catalog) it took me a while to get it hooked up properly. If I recall properly, I was using a cable input with a VCR for my TV, and using the decoder really complicated the installation.

But I recall feeling really proud of myself when it was finally working, and during the last two weeks I have been setting up a wireless home network for my three computers...when I get everything operational I am going to think back to 20 years ago when such a simple hookup seemed really complex.
:o
Thanks for bringing back the memory, and yes I still have the decoder today.

When I first got my decoder, I was excited. I started watching movies and television shows with captioning. Heh!

i got my first one as a built in CC in the tv -- i think the brand name was Zenith -- got that in 1980 (i think was the year it came out) as a birthday gift from my grandma -- LOVED it -- that TV actually survived til the early 2000s when it pretty much died -- got the CC box in the late 80s if i recall right -- definately was thrilled!

My first CC decoder was Telecaption 3000 donated from KARE-11 tv station/Jaycee Charity and delivered to D.E.A.F store in 1988's to all low income deaf viewers to receive a free Telecaption 3000 decoder. My TC 3000 decoder don't work and retired it, I have 25" Zenith television with CC build-in since 1996.
