Hi, my name is Royce. I lost my hearing a little over a year ago and I am in the process of learning ASL. I'm from Charlotte, NC. Is there anyone from this area? Anyway, it's nice having a place to chat online. I'm home most of the day. I look forward to any replys. Thanks:cool2:

To AllDeaf!

I am from Iowa, but I am sure there are others here from your area.

Thanks guys and gals for welcoming me. I'm sure I will enjoy chatting with all. I'm glad I found this website. I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Hi, Royce. I'm on the opposite coast. I've only been deaf 8 years, though it seems longer. I was hard-of-hearing for over 20 years, but was lucky enough to have a big sister who signed ASL.

For me, learning to speechread was the hardest, and it's still the most difficult part of my communications out among the hearies.

What's most fun, of course, is complaining about some of the more clueless hearies.

Welcome.

Hi Royce! My family is from Hendersonville, NC with some living in Greensboro.
I live not too far from Chase here on the left coast. I attended High School in East Flat Rock NC near the Carl Sandburg home. Are you familiar with that area?
Welcome to alldeaf. I'm a clueless Hearie. haha Well maybe I have a few little clues. And what I don't I'll make up for in creativity.

Hi Royce and welcome to alldeaf. I live near New Bern, NC so just a few hours away. I am new to hearing loss, as it all has happened within the last 3 years. Have not learned much ASL as I live and work in a hearing environment. It's not that I don't want to learn, just feel defeated before I start..after all, who would I talk to? Myself??? :giggle:

I love to be deaf, but I couldn't live without music (rap, hip hop, R&B, electronica, etc. with lots of bass :giggle:) and movies with lots of bass (I'm talking like very low frequencies)... :giggle:

I really like ASL, but because I'm visually impaired, my right eye (I'm blind on my left eye) can't be able to keep up with those who sign quite fast... It just takes some time for my vision to comprehend the signs. I'm also hearing and speech impaired, though (by speech impaired, I meant that I have trouble with the "r" sound).

And by the way, :welcom: to AllDeaf! :) Enjoy your stay!!

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. I hope you enjoy reading and posting all the threads here. Have fun with us. I have been deaf since I was born. As for hearies, being deaf or hard of hearing might be troubling for you, but we are use to be Deaf and loving it. Other people don't appreciate being deaf or hard of hearing. You just have to learn to adapt to hearing silence unless you have hearing aids that you might pick up some sounds. Hearing aids does not help much like trying to hear like hearies. I wear one on my left ear which I hear noises and my right ear I am totally deaf (could not use hearing aid as there is no sounds at all). So see you around.

I'm quite the same with wearing hearing aids. Hearing aids doesn't seem to help much with understanding words better.

95db loss left, 70db loss right.

But I love the hearing aids. I really like bass sounds.

Plus I am much less likely to be run over!
