My mother's smoked pot regularly since she was 14 years old. She has had a successful 20-year career as a Broadway company manager and at age 63, still tokin' and smokin', she is working two regular jobs plus regularly volunteering for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
She is healthy as a horse and has been my entire life.
Please, do yourselves a favor and think about where you're getting your information from. News stories boil scientific papers down to the most sensationalistic information. The government is completely invested in providing misinformation.
When you said "I heard this" or "They say this" think about it: where did you hear it? Who is "they"? Analyze the source. Think critically instead of believing everything you read just because it's in USA Today.
This may have been said b/4 but I can't read pages and pages.
Basically smoking pot is illegal , so it should not be done end of story.

Care to tell us why?
Just because a law is in place doesn't always mean that it's justified.
Ok, to be honest, I know from personal experience that your short term memory goes to shit when you do this for years. I am typing at work so don't ask me details. Past couple of yrs Ive noticed that I am real crabby and lazy when it comes to my kids. I am happiest when it is not around. It's been over a yr for me. And it is so damn expensive. And it's illegal. I have to think about that cuz I have kids and nosey neighbors and most of the good jobs drug test. People may say it is okay but those are the people who are currently doing it, even if it's sporatic. It's just not good for you! Previous poster says her mom did it all her life. why is mom working 2 jobs? Is that something a kid aspires - - to work 2 jobs!?! We already have a challenge understanding what people are trying to say, we don't need to overcome a harder challenge while under the influence. Anyway, I am gonna shut up now.
Perhaps because at the age of 63, after having smoked and toked for the most of her life, she still has enough energy and good health to be able to stay active and vital. If she is working 2 jobs...something many non-smoking younger persons refuse to do simply out of laziness...I say she deserves kudos. And a great big doobie if that is her choice!:P

It makes some people hungry and eat then some of ended up gain more weight which effect health problem down the road.
Really? Because something is illegal, that's why it's "wrong"?
That is a statement with the least amount of critical thinking possible.
And it is in fact legal in a number of states for patients who qualify. So how does that help your "argument"?
And my mother works two jobs because she LOVES her work and loves to be busy all the time. She was out of work for a time and is now very happy. So I see you also go ahead and make assumptions to go with your lack of critical analysis of a subject.
Whatever your personal feeling is about marijuana, that's fine, I'd never in a zillion years try to convince someone to do something they don't want to. But if you want to insist that pot is bad, mm'kay, just because it's illegal, then it is your responsibility to find out why it's illegal in the first place and whether you think those reasons are justified.
Fun fact: William Randolph Hearst, the famous newspaper magnate, was afraid of the possibility of hemp coming in and replacing his hold on the paper industry. He started printing stories about the terrible danger of "marijuana," a word he coined hoping it would scare people because it sounded Mexican and evil. At this point cannabis was still legal, and not only that had been used for hundreds if not thousands of years for medical purposes.
Fun fact #2: The federal government has a medical marijuana project in place, which is officially over but the surviving members of the project still receive an allotment of marijuana -- GROWN BY THE GOVERNMENT -- every month. Nevertheless, the government schedules cannabis among THE most dangerous along with things like heroin and LSD, whereas cocaine is considered less dangerous?
Did you know that?
No?
Then time to do some reading before you judge. Everything I've said here can be verified, although it's entirely possible I got a detail or two wrong.
Ironically, I was watching Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare on DVD and there was a part where this kid fell asleep after smoking pot and saw a PSA commercial on television with Johnny Depp. "Hello." *holds up an egg* "This is your brain." *cracks the egg in a pan* "This is your brain on drugs."
And also I have witness many who smoke pots led to hard drugs. it goes same with drinking.
I'd be interested in seeing a citation of the study where you got this information about the effects of marijuana on obesity and related health problems. Oh, you only know one or two people this happened to? Never mind.
