Rat tales abound in NYC after Superstorm Sandy

You and me are the same. We've been having an opossum/skunk problem here at our home. They've been getting under our mobile home. We have the hardibacker skirting but they still get in somewhere! I can't figure it out. I have caught four opossums in the last four days. No skunks yet but I know they're around. We smell them. No way could I kill one. I'm no hunter. I buy my food from the meat market. So I have been driving them 30 miles over to Elgin and releasing them into this guy's yard that I don't like much.

Don't worry. His yard is like 8 acres.

Allright. FINE. I'm an a-hole.

Allllrighty....gonna get down to the Everglades, catch some Pythons...and release them in ur yard.....you won't have any problems after that, huh?........OK

I'd deserve it.

I would not be surprised if he was bringing the opossums here in the first place! LOL! He lives way out in the boonies so it's all good. I'm not dropping them in his front yard or anything.

Had several 'Possums living in trees along the river by my house....and one got into the house (hid behind the TV)...our dog and cat were raising hell!...I got the broom and tried to shoo it out the patio door...it hissed at me, and was the ugliest creature I've ever seen!....I stopped putting dry cat food outside for the stray cats after that...that was what attracted the Possums to start with.....

Perhaps the Possums and Skunks are after ur garbage cans or any food left outside for Pets?.....

I think it's more of the proximity of our home. We live in a mobile home community. I'm the last house on the end of the street facing the forests where they come from. They duck under our house before going off into the neighborhood looking for food.

And yes... they are ugly.

I don't believe you guys... unless you live in an igloo in the arctics, impossible!

We don't have them here, either. I also notice that in Houston, house flies are very rare, though I do seem to get a small hoard of fruit flies, but that's basically it as far as hoards go.

There are BILLIONS of rats in Houston. GIANT ONES TOO!!! Just go downtown and sit on a park bench. Watch them squirm all over. Ew.

I'd deserve it.

Thanks for the laugh fella. I have been trying to find something to laugh about all day.

There are a lot of critters down there that we don't have up here in Alaska. I have heard of people seeing rats but have never seen one myself.
I find the whole business of no rats in Alberta amazing. Lots of farm country and no rats. Now that is taking it serious.

When my Black Lab was alive and especially up to about 7 or 8 years old, he would hunt and kill a variety of creatures in the yard. I was usually too late to dissuade him- possums, rabbits, squirrels, mice. Also got raccoons.

I took another one there this morning.

Amazing? Nah. It's unrealistic. Rats are almost everywhere. For example... I hadn't seen a cockroach in my house for the entire time that we lived here. Then I replaced a piece of sheetrock and found three tree roaches living up there.

It's embarrassing to admit that you have rats or even roaches.

I have yet to see any mice or rats ever in the 3 homes I've owned. Maybe I'm lucky?

We do have voles that live out in the yard, though. They just don't seem to come into the house. Unless I just haven't see them in the house.

:hmm: I wonder if your large cat family has anything to do with that...

Did you mean large as in Millie, the monster cat?

or

Large as in # of cats ??

 I was referring to sheer number, but if you put a picture of Millie up at the entrance, I am certain mice would think twice about coming in!

Cats are going to laugh at people who call mice vole. I can see cat speak----"Voles. Mice. Whatever. Let me bring some gifts to you".
