I have always wanted to try stick but unfourtanely everyone in my family has automatic :-\

My honda sl-350 is one up and 3 down.
 
my escort wagon was a stick and that's the only thing I miss about it. Now I'm driving an automatic, which is OK cuz it's a camry. I definately prefer stick though.

:lol: My very first car was a 5 speed Honda Civic. Back in 1989. :P After blowing up the engine, I bought an auto volvo station wagon due to my newspaper route.
Now I have a 1997 Hyundai Excel, 5 speed! Yay...was so happy to get a car with stick gear! I hated auto cos it's so boring. Stick gears keep me awake and alert on roads. :P

cool....Goldie, Just wondering how it feels to be driving on what us Americans would call "the wrong side" of the car and shifting gears with the left hand instead of the right hand? I tried it dry run myself and find it pretty disconcerting to use both left limbs to run stickshift on a RHD car compared to driving normally on a LHD car.

Funny you mentioned Americans calling 'the wrong side' of the car....Australians say the same for Americans. :P My father in law kept on teasing me about that when I first arrived here and learning to drive on my right side instead of left....and changing gears with my left hand.
I must admit, I did have some embarrassing moments during my first few 'driving lessons' -- whenever I was going to reverse out of the driveway, out of habit, I'd turn my head to the right and *BANG* my head'd hit the window and went :wtf:. Realised, I had to turn my head to the LEFT! D'oh!
Nowadays, I don't hit my head on the window anymore cos I've gotten accustomed to swiveling my head to the LEFT, hehehe.

I did find it disconcerting in the beginning, but am OK with it now...used to it as I've been here for almost 5 years now. Ironically, I'm afraid to drive in USA now. :P

Hehehhe...he's been to L.A. and Hawaii before on holiday's years ago. :) If the opportunity does come up on having holidays' together there, I will be sure to grab it. :)

I can drive stick shift

I used to drive a truck that had 15 speeds! A Frieghtliner! :)
 
of course, I can drive a stick shift. I always have owned cars with stick shift transmissions, and never owned car with a automatic tranny. They give u more engine feedback when u mash the throttle and get better gas mileage, too. It also gives u better control of the car, too.

I love roaring to the redline and shifting gears and zoom to the freeway very quickly. It's so fun shifting gears at redline, I love the sound of the engine revving. BRRRRROOOOAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
 
I am not a woman enough to drive a stick shift. I remember my mom had a car with a stick shift and when she went up the hill the car was going backward not all that it was moving down the hill :-o I said Mom! What are u doing?! :Ohno:

After watching her drive, She doesn't do good with a stick shift last time she parked her car downtown Cleveland her car was gone, We found it down the street crashed into someone else's car. :whistle:
 
stick shift is best!

I call it manual gear in Australia, my car is manual gear/stick shift and my DH's automatic. I can drive both.
 
I used to drive stick, and would even drive again if given chance. As right now the only vehicle I drive with stick is my motorcycle. Other two vehicles runs on automatics. Until 1995, vehicles with manual tranny saves more gas than automatics, but after that, it isnt true anymore! Both tranny have about equal mileage. There is only advantage for automatic I see is ability to have remote start. Can't have remote start on manual. Since I live in the great North, and I hate sitting in frigid vehicle for 15 minutes before it finally warms up. On other hand, vehicles with stick have lesser chance of getting stolen than automatics.
 
I first learned how to drive on a manual stick shift. My first few cars (VW bug, Opel, Chevy Vega GT, Porsche 914) were all manual shift. My recent cars have been automatic; it just worked out that way.

I enjoy driving small cars with stick and manual steering, especially small fast cars. I like to downshift.

I prefer having automatic and power steering for larger cars.
 
I can drive both, but need more practice on stick-shifting..

Of course I'm a stick shift driver. There're very common in Europe use stick shift driver.

I'm tooooo dumb to learn how to use automaic. I had been tried but I don't like it because it's toooooo boring to driving without energy. I rather to use stick shift to keep my body energy when I use it all the time.
 
I'm a girl & I'm learning how to use stick shift... I'm gonna to change my automatic gear to stick shift in my car cause stick shift is more sporty! All my friends r also learning how to stick shift, too. My car is 2001 black Honda Civic LX and it is fast! But no stick shift yet, but soon. :dj:
 
My dad had bought a Plymouth Horizon for my usage and it had a stick. He yelled the first time I stalled. After awhile, he didn't ride with me, but the car still stalled, so I'd start out in second gear. After burning the clutch two times, he sold the car. A few years later, he bought a small Chevy Luv truck while preparing to transfer to Seattle, so when I came, I drove it. He was worried until he noticed that I had a blast driving it (though bouncy) and not frying clutch. I actually prefer a stick shift, but not in rush hour traffic. Plus, if I got stuck, I can rock the car back and forth, with an auto, one can't do it. I have an auto now, but actually prefer a stick, so when I buy a new vehicle, it WILL BE a stick shift...I insist. :mrgreen:
