Questions about hearing aids

Well it wasn't as if she knew that it wouldn't effect it's function. She knew they would function fine. The idea was that me taking my glasses on and off and constantly flipping my hair would cause me to knock it out of place. Maybe I wasn't clear. I asked the question about the glasses and the hair and then she said well it could cause you to knock it out of place where as the cic would be in and there would be no problem with it. That was when she told me about the 45 day trial period. Your input is really great. I am learning a lot. When I go Thursday I will now I have information

They don't really cause problems like that, but if they did, I feel certain you would soon adjust your habits unconsciously so that you were not knocking them off. But really your hair would be over, not under the hearing aid, so even if you did flip your hair, the BTE would be unaffected.

yeah besides I have no problem with my hearing aids and glasses since my hearing aids is pretty tiny

Wow, you sound like me with your concerns! I'm newly HOH and by researching here I found that CIC can make you feel clogged, like putting your fingers in the ears constantly.

I have shoulder length thick hair (I'm Asian) and I just got my BTE open fits not even a week ago. I work in a warehouse where I do a lot of lifting, bending over, and basically, a lot of physical work.

So far, my hair (I wear it loose) has not been an issue considering how much I move my head around and have to flip my hair out of the way in order to see while I bend over to lift things.

I wear glasses and they sit on top of my aids. My glasses do not feel loose nor do the aids.

I don't even have issues when changing clothes because I'm used to pulling the fabric OVER and away from my glasses rather than letting them rub up against them. Because I do that, my aids are not affected either.

But if you feel comfortable with CIC, remember this one other thing. My audi told me that the batteries for them will last up to three days. I lucked out with 7 days with the ones I chose.

As for your question about being clearer, my experience has been not only clearer, but a tad louder where I'm am lacking, not where I don't need it. It's more balanced now. As a matter of fact, today while I was watching TV with my husband, I asked him: "Hey out of curiosity, is the volume on the TV lower than I usually watch it at?" And he said: " A LOT lower. You used to have to have it at this." And he cranked the TV up, and put on the surround sound. I have to wave at him to LOWER IT!!! :)

But if you find that it's too loud for you, your audi can adjust them. Mine was loud on one side and she fixed it for me.

Good luck on your decision and welcome to AllDeaf! :)

If it happens it will be because the tube is sitting loose behind your ear because it's too long. The audi can shorten it so it doesn't happen any more.

I see in your blog that you have chosen a hearing aid that will arrive Thursday. Congrats! :) Keep us posted on how it goes, okay?

I used to wear BTE but it was hard to deal with on top of eyeglasses. My audiologist order Widex RIC and they've worked fine without issues and I have severe to profound loss, I'd advise you to trust your audiologist first rather than jump on recommendations from a forum. Everything takes an adjustment period and if you're still unhappy with it, discuss it with your audiologist so you can find a solution that's appropriate for you and your degree of loss.

Thank you for your support everyone. I had to move my appointment to pick them up till monday. I can't get off work in time to catch the Audiologist before it closes on Thur or Friday. I am a bit nervous but I know it is going to be ok. I will say I am starting to be more conscious of my hearing loss. Not sure if it is because I have had my fears confirmed or what but the other day I counted how many times I asked the guys in my family to repeat themselves and I realized it was quite a bit. I will keep everyone posted on how it goes. I am going to try to make it Friday but not sure if I will. If I don't it will definitely be monday.

Try not to worry. I walked in to pick up my hearing aids almost in tears because seeing them and touching them was the proof that I really had lost some of my hearing.

But when I tried them, it really was okay. As a matter of fact, it wasn't as bad as I thought! Thursday I go back to see her, and she's going to adjust whatever I need - it will be one week that I've had them.

I'm still getting used to them, but I have a feeling that after a few times going to get them tuned in perfectly, it will be as if they are an extension of my body. And that's how I am choosing to look at it. It's now a part of me, a part that I should be proud of because it shows that I'm willing to do something that takes care of ME. :)

So proud that I spent my first day back at work showing them off. :D

You will be okay, you really will!

((hugs))

Thank you again. I am glad I signed on here to get feedback. I am 31 and its been kind of a roller coaster. Right now I am glad I am getting it but I go back and forth. When I went I was alone. It was my thing. When I told my boyfriend he said "you know I swore you were going to walk in front of a car some day but I thought it was because you were just not paying attention. I considered it might be your hearing but then I figured you were young." When he siad that I was thinking "why didn't you say anything" Then I realized he did. He would tell me "didn't you hear that car?" I guess it was the little hints like that which eventually lead me here.

Don't be so preoccupied with what you do and don't hear. Just take things a day at time, and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised when you get fitted.

Exactly how it happened to me. While mine was definitely worse, I would recommend a BTE, they are more comfortable and all.
