Hello! I am a future EKU Student and I'm trying to decide my major. Unfortunately I'm stuck between two choices: Deaf Interpreter and Special Education Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
I am not sure which way I'd prefer to go and they are completely different fields with only 3 classes in common. All I know is that I have been fascinated with sign language since 2nd grade when I first learned my ASL ABCs. I want to work with sign and the deaf community... but I'm not sure as what.
Would anyone mind telling me a bit about interpreting? What challenges didn't you expect to encounter? What is the career like for you on a daily basis? What do you love most and what makes you want to roll your eyes and pray for rain? What would your advice be to someone considering going into this field?
If any teachers who work with deaf students happen to read this, same questions! Thank you in advance to everyone who answers, I would really appreciate any insight, information, personal experience or links you could give me that would help me make this decision and learn more about the field.
Have a beautiful day!
