Question abt "My Deaf Family" Show.

Since some of you members have heard that Marlee Martin was trying to get this show "My deaf family" on the television over the few months and has failed since NBC, TBL, and other shows rejected it. We have heard that AG Bell was at fault for several shows that was being rejected. It just does not make any sense why it should be rejected if they hired or allowed several deaf - HOH actress/actors in the first place.
 
It probably has more to do with what they think will "sell". Not the shows themselves, but what advertisers are willing to pay for ads to run on shows. And that is determined by how many people watch. I suspect they feel not many would watch. Which is sad, because that might not be the case.
 
Im sure they'd broadcast it if it was called "my deaf porn star family"

I wouldn't count Marlee out just yet. She's very active on Twitter and elsewhere about raising awareness for My Deaf Family.
 
Yeah "My Deaf Family" would be a more realistic hit for many of ADers. I think it is sad if they can't get it broadcast :aw:
 
Well to be honest... those host stations has no clue how many people will watch, they also have no clue how many deaf americans out there, and other americans who will be interested. But in our research, one or two of the channel station admitted that AG Bell said something to prevent them from considering it, and some said what you guys mentioned that they are afraid to waste money if not enough viewers.
 
Wasn't there also something about how people wouldn't enjoy having to read captions/hear voice overs? Something about how viewers don't like having to see/hear a translation of what's being said (since most people don't know ASL).
 
I already signed the petition and I am 1104. I hope the author will send the petitions to the Networks that we want to have a new t.v. series just like the Black families in some of the episodes and other culture like the muslim show we have here in Canada. It is about time to change and show what we can do things as a Deaf family like any hearing family, except we want to use ASL and function like a deaf people, not try to be hearing people. :roll: I hope Marlee will keep up with the "My Deaf Family" idea to the Networks. Hearing people will have to accept the way we are so we need to let the public know about our deafness and Deaf heritage, plus Deaf Culture. I hope Deanne Bray will go on the show too. She is good but I prefer her to sign instead of talking like she did on "Sue Thomas, FB eye". She don't have to be perfect. So I am crossing my fingers and pray that we can have a show like "My Deaf Family". :fingersx:
 
Not my bag of show to watch, but good luck to those who want to see it continues.

I'm curious - (in the bold) Do you have a source of what is being said? Not that I'm defending AG Bell (I'm not crazy about AG Bell Organization) but I'd like for it to be vouched.
 
I would love to see this show be on tv. My daughter (14) is hearing while Hubby, my other daughter and myself are deaf/HOH. She can relate so much to Jared the oldest boy. I think it would give the public some real knowledge about how the other half lives...
 
My Deaf Family

They have petition for you to sign.

TLC/Discovery is pain in the butt. They want Sarah Palin show instead of the mydeaffamily show. They said if you want to shut down Sarah Palin show, they need 1 million votes.. in short period. I was like that is way to high, most numbers for this situation ususally half a million or less. They just does not want people to decide but themselves. They have been in trouble and I hope they do again for shutting down the desire for my deaf family. You can do this or email TLC that you want this show instead of whatever they decide to put in such as Sarah Palin. (fake politician)
 
If you post on their FB page, they will delete your comment. I found that disconcerting even though I was very polite - just stating that I wish they'd show such quality programming that would be of interest to the Deaf as well as hearing people. My comment was gone within minutes. :roll:

Yes it just disappears as I post. So I just clicked on it and takes me to other sites and entered the vote. They knew they will have a lot of heated debate if they left the comment option open.

I wish they'd just put the show on and watch the ratings. Whoever wants to watch the show will watch it. Isn't it already in production? Haven't episodes already been made? So put it on and see what the ratings do. If it isn't "proiftable," take it off. :roll:

But if it is profitable...:laugh2:

I've never been one much for money and the whole Capitalist culture.

But it has to make money. That is the requirement in a business.
