I wasnt sure if it is a correct thread to discuss this. I got a question in my mind... I never thought about it actually. I think it's a wee bit silly question tho but I am curoius. um What happen when if people completed their Stem Cells Treatment so are they allowed to enter at the Deaflympics or not allowed?

I thought thought that when people got their stem cells done so they will be not able to do some deaflympics things, because they got a normal hearing. Have a look more info about hearing/decibels to enter at the deaflympics - International Committee of Sports for the Deaf - Athletes

Im happy if anyone would discuss about these because I would like to know.

Many thanks :)

SOrry if anyone whos fed up hearing about the ste, cell but however im so curoius right now

I would assume maybe not unless you are at certain level of deafness to take part.

Interesting thank you for bringing that up.

I doubt there is enough clinical results to where a rule has been filed.

They require only 55db HL PTA. Someone who's profoundly deaf with 100db HL who improves to 55db HL would be HOH, yet still be eligable for deaflympics. If his hearing is better than 55db HL, he won't be eligable for deaflympics per their requirements.

From the Deafolympics site.
Eligibility
The Summer and Winter Deaflympics bring together deaf athletes of all (link to) affiliated National Associations. Participants in the Deaflympics must be:

Deaf, defined as a hearing loss of at least 55 dB per tone average in the better ear (3-tone frequency average at 500, 1000 and 2000 Hertz, ISO 1969 Standard)
Members of an affiliated National Deaf Sports Federation and citizens of that country.
There is no general age limit for competitors. However, age restrictions may apply for specific sports or events as stated in the relevant International Sports Federations' regulations.

Audiogram form must be sent to your National Deaf Sport Federation for their review and they will submit the form to ICSD home office.

Interesting question, unless the Deaflympics board members decides to change the rules for level of deafness for the eligibility.

Maybe there will be "Stemlympics" set up for those who were successful from stem cell treatments. :dunno:
