i will be seeing my friend this weekend and she told me that i will meet her guy friend who has Asperger's. i have never met a person with this disorder before.

do you know anyone with asperger's? what are they like? how do you interact with them?

no, not yet. However i believe i met several and they wouldnt tell me. i only know online member here and this member is pretty smart. :)

I have not met any in real life that I know of. Online, I know of at least 3. Two are on a Home School forum I belong to.

Well, I know someone very well - me! Though I have a fairly mild form, the biggest thing is not to touch without asking/warning. At least for me, someone touching me without warning is very annoying.

I know that eye contact is a pretty big deal in Deaf culture, but most people on the Autism spectrum aren't comfortable with eye contact, so don't let it offend you, it is very difficult to look someone in the eye.

We have strange ways of showing emotions, at least that is what I'm told. And I tend to take things at face value.

Have you ever watched the TV show Bones? The lead character, Bones has a lot of characteristics of being an Aspie.

That's all that comes to mind, if you have specific questions, let me know!

My niece has Asperger's and she is not able to made eyes contact, and when she find something to be funny she will laugh longer than other people. You just treat the person like you would anyone else , just do not get upset if they do not look at you when talking. People that have Asperger's will repeat themselves and as you know no two people are the same. I would not spend too much time thinking how to act as you may made the person feel uncomfortable if they know you're treating them differently. My niece hate to be treated as if something is 'wrong' with her when meeting new people.

Asperger's can mean anything from "kinda out of it socially" (meaning like the social issues seen as a comorbid with learning disabilties) to basicly full blown autism but has decent spoken language, and everything and anything in between.

Yes that is why I said no two people are same . My niece is not able to drive a car but her boyfriend can and he has Asperger's too.
