Question About Consciousness

Aha! Thanks. You are good at concise explanation!! :ty:

You're welcome. And thank you!:ty: And also keep in mind that just because a fetus has died in utero from an X chromosomal disorder doesn't also mean that they would have manifested synesthesia. That is what I meant by the leap. All carriers of X chromosomal disorders do not manifest synesthesia.

Very interesting, dogmom. That is actually a well known, although rare, phenomenon. Is it anything in particular that causes you to picture colors?
you mean there are people who can't see colors in their thoughts? how do they know what is red if they can't see it in their thoughts? What about when they daydream about their boyfriend? do they see the color of his eyes and hair in their head?

I guess some people spend more time thinking in words (and the sound of it) than pictures.

There is a form of brain injury that results in not being able to see colors in the thoughts. But hearing the word "red" or seeing the sign for "red" and then picturing the associated color in your thoughts is not the same as synesthesia. In synesthesia, for example, an individual will see a "4" and not picture a "4" in their thoughts, but will see the color yellow for instance, instead. Or certain color patterns will be pictured when certain musical patterns are heard. Words will be represented by color. The picturing of the color is unrelated to the actual word, number, or whatever.

ok that make sense. The way you described it somewhat reminded me one of the 1970's music videos (Or visualization feature that window media player have or kaleidoscopic)

From Wikipedia:

It is estimated that synesthesia could possibly be as prevalent as 1 in 23 persons across its range of variants.

Like I said, some scientists say everyone has it, to SOME degree. Kind of how everyone has a li'l ADD in 'em. The 1 in 2000 statistic is usually used to describe people who're synesthetic to the point that it borders on hallucinations.

The next time you attempt to refute a statement, I would suggest that you find a referece with more definitive conclusions than "estimated" and "could possibly be". This is nothing more than supposition. It could also be "estimated" that it "could possibly be" as rare as 1-5000.

Hence, the reason that Wiki is not a reliable source for support.
