Question about ASL

I know. some people says about syntactic structure differently so think asl is no language.

It's definitely a language. Even I know that with my limited experience with it. It has a unique syntax, and it has its own idioms, and there is a specific way it is "spoken."

I'm a language geek, though, so I pick up on stuff like that.

I'm a hearie, and learning ASL which I think is an incredibly vibrant language. Ive applied to college for a 1 year program in Deaf studies, hoping to go on to the interpreter program if they accept me. At this point, I don't use my ASL every day and I'm far from fluent, but I find myself signing at my husband and the poor guy has no idea what I'm signing at him! :^O
My second son is hoping to take ASL in his highschool next year (it's offered in the language program as the school has a deaf program), for his own interest.

I catch myself signing at people all the time, and then I'll stop myself and say, "I have no idea why I'm signing at you. LOL!" When you sign so much of the time, it just becomes a habit (I guess that's a good thing.) :P

Being in a Oral-only mainstream school and after graduation from mainstream high school, ASL lift my tense shoulders and chest real easy that I am happy to communicate with the Deaf Communities. I was no longer frustrated and unhappy with struggling to communicate in oral. Signing ASL give me full peace and still do. Yay!!!! :h5:
