Pros and Cons about Gallaudet University as student

I have been in the area for 15 years, part of the time working at Gallaudet. The area is much, much better than it was 15 years ago. Especially near the Metro station.

Yeah, but wouldn't it be cool if the area was like Harvard Square/Noho? I would love that!

Just got home from watching a play called Deafhood at Gallaudet tonight. My brother, my friend and I walked to H Street from Gallaudet. Oh my gosh..huge huge difference from 10 years ago when I was a student at Gallaudet. The area has become one of DC's trendy areas and H Street definitely is happening! We ate at a Japanese bar and grill place. Great food and great prices!

Have you tried Sticky Rice on H Street? They are damn good. :giggle:

Hoping the area around the new Metro Station will be filled with restaurants, boutiques, bars, and stores. I think it is a slow go due to the economy being sluggish right now.

I got mugged when I snuck out to buy cigarettes at Merit. They took the two packs that I had just bought (no change left), my MSSD id, my shoes, and my TSD letter jacket.

RIGHT IN FULL VIEW of the security guard booth who was reading the paper at the time.

U know what was the amazing thing was? Two nights ago, walking from Gallaudet to H Street at 10PM on a Friday night, I felt much much safer than I did 10 years ago. How much things have changed for the better. I am really happy for the community in that area. :)

Do you mean the NoMa-Gallaudet U station? If you do, then there's lots of new stuff right next to the station.

Really? I should go check it out. Thanks!!!

I definitely remember what the streets looked like back in '99, when I first visited Gally and then again, in 2010, a huge difference was in the making, and I find it better in modern times, it looks more safer as they think better ways because of the university surroundings. Safer streets makes everyone happy to see it look better. :)

I even, walked to the gallaudet station at 5pm, not one person even approached or mugged me at all. I certainly looked like a local american

i know i should not post on this thread, but in uk.program called 'see hear' some years ago they had one hour documenary about gally, even tho from forgners perspective it was facinating...any americans thinking of going watching from totally objective view always good....everyone seeme happy

Yesterday, I went to the new market next to Gallaudet on the west side. Oh wow!!! I felt like I was in Seattle or something because of how it was designed. Very upper classy.

I will return to Gally in Jan 2014 for spring semester. :cool2:

My medical condition has improving, but not closer to perfect.
