Police Taser 10-Year-Old Girl
Police Taser 10-Year-Old Girl - todaysthv.com | KTHV | Little Rock, AR

Little Rock, Ark. (KTHV) - An Ozark police officer says he used a taser on a 10-year-old girl after she was acting violently towards her mother and the officer.

According to the police report, the officer arrived at the home in the reference to a domestic call. When the officer arrived, he saw the daughter balled up on the floor crying and screaming.

The officer made several attempts to talk to the girl, but she refused to answer. The officer says he then saw the girl's mother try to get her ready for bed, but the girl continued to kick, scream and resist every time her mother tried to touch her. The officer says that's when the mother says the officer could use a Taser on the girl if he needed to.

After making several attempts to calm her down, the officer says they then made the decision there would be no peaceful end to the situation, so they began to place her under arrest. The officer describes the girl as thrashing wildly, jerking her arms. While she was violently kicking, the officer says she kicked them with her legs and feet in the groin.

The officer says they then "administered a very, very brief drive stun to her back with the Taser. She immediately stopped resisting and was placed into handcuffs."

The officer then carried the girl to the squad car as she could not walk on her own and was taken to a local youth shelter.

According to the Ozark Police Department, the officer is not on suspension at this time and the name not been released.

The Mayor Vernon McDaniel requested Ozark Police Chief Jim Noggle to ask the Arkansas State Police to investigate the incident.

DONT DO THAT TO YOUNGER KIDS ON TASER!

I don't agree with tasering TEN year olds. I would if she had a weapon etc but she didn't. Come on!! That's stupid

Using a teaser on a kid as 10 yrs old is just weak...the cop should've had a partner with him as it would make it harder for the girl to fight back with more than one trained officer to put her down and handcuff her. For a full grown adult, it takes 2 to 4 officers to take him down and handcuff him, but for a 10 year old girl due to the height and size and such, shouldn't be as hard so he need another person to help her get down and handcuff her than to taser her.

You bleeding heart parents are the reason why today's kids are nothing but spoiled rotten brats. you don't learn how to raise them right so it's best for cops to taser them or beat them with batons to knock them out!

Sure miss the good old days!

In the old days 10 y/o were not beaten or tasered. As I remember it, parents were more strick and neighbors were just as bad if you were at their house and screwed up.

It's obvious that this child has something wrong to make her this violent. It is possible that there is some underlying mental issue or maybe this child has had to deal with being abused and then just snapped. We will never know, but there was no need to taser the poor child. The officer should have called for additional help and for child services as well.

The lack of spanking is the reason why kids are acting out and behaving like spoiled brats.

It's the bleeding heart people who tell parents not to spank their kids and with the stupid laws on the books, parents are ending up in jail for disciplining their children. Kids has more rights than the parents do.

Yiz

guess you should try handling a violent child first... then come back and criticize.

Violence against ANY child is wrong. But I agree that parents should be ultimately responsible for the discipline of their children. To stop being so soft and to make them obey and listen. Stop buying them everything and STOP giving in when they throw a tantrum.
Don't need to call the cops, ground the little buggers and show 'em who's really the boss around the house!

how do you show them who is the boss if the child is very violent and uncooperative? if you read the article - the child was uncontrollable... to the point where mother had to call a cop. otherwise... next day - the mother would go to jail for abusing a child when trying to control her child. The child is likely to have some kind of bruise or a sign of physical struggle and you know school teachers look for sign.

it's a lose-lose situation anyway. IMO - the police is not in wrong and he made a reasonable judgment call. granted - it's not a great solution but it was the best solution available at hand for this uncontrollable, violent child. The child was placed at local youth shelter, not jail. There are professionals and counselors at local youth shelter to help give guidance for mother and this troubled child. Nobody got hurt. Everything ended peacefully.

again - when you have dealt with a violent child... come back and then you can criticize all you want.

you guys have obviously never been around an emotionally disturbed 10-yr-old. you would be surprised at how strong and violent they are.

Do you have any kids? I don't think you do. It is easy for you to judge parents when you don't know what it is like to be a parent. You don't know what goes on behind closed doors.

There is no such thing as a perfect parent and there is no one-size-fits-all parenting style either. Word of advice--Never judge parents because you never know how yours will turn out when you have a child one day. ;)

That's good to see police got her under control. I'm not surprise about some uncontrollable kids. It'd rather sad...

it is still a very bad idea to resort to tasering on children, however disturbed or not. I had worked with such children for 10 years and I can say definitely there are other ways to resolve this situation before using such punitive measures. Few times I had to intervene to stop police from using tasers and resolve the crisis peacefully.

I have dealt with a violent child. It turned out to be a medical issue that caused her to act out like that. With intervention and medication, she is doing well.

My brother was worse, but with punishment from my parents he straightened out pretty well. He will tell you it was child abuse, but it wasn't.

I know when we were in Missouri, the law was, if a mark stayed longer than 10 minutes, then it's child abuse. Now, I never resorted to using more than my hand on either of my kids, but there were times I wished I could do more. My son has a terrible temper, but in the end, he has finally calmed down.
