Pole Shift in 2012?

That's awesome! I can't wait for that to happen! Yeah! ;)

Pole shifts happen every 10,000 years or so. And were overdue for one.

No they don’t. Computer models show that if it weren’t for the stabilizing influence of the Moon’s orbit, Earth would undergo periodic pole shifts. That’s what you’re thinking of. Fortunately for us, the Moon is ‘holding us up’. It’s never happened.

You cant be serious about that vamp! If a pole shift happens earthquakes and volcanoes would erupt and all hell would cut lose and we all could die!!! :hyper: :Ohno:

Oh, he’s serious as a heart attack. Vampy thrives on that kind of shit. He lives for mass chaos.

Wish I am deaf prophet  I am reading Edgar Cayce who believed that globe will be shift.

Just remember there are two kinds of polar shifts. The one that buckdodgers talked about where the axis of the planet shifts to a significantly different position (say like to a equatorial position). Nobody in their right mind ever wants to see this happen. If it did, life as we know it is finished. The shock to the world is so enormous that earthquakes, volcanos, and the works will be as man could never imagine it. There is no chance (zero, nada, zitch...) of anybody surviving it any length of time. Survival ain't going to happen as there is no place that is safe. Could it happen? Who knows and there are indications that it has happened in the past but we are talking eons ago. I certainly don't give credence to buckdodgers link whatsoever.

The other kind of polar shift is a shift in the magnetic poles (the north pole becomes the south pole). Now, that has appeared to happened many times in the past and could easily happen again anytime. It just depends on certain circumstances transpiring. If this were to happen, the would be some problems but nothing we couldn't recover from. It would effect electronics the most and depending how it shifted and how long it took it could cause some problems. The biggest is the radiation from outer space hitting us down on the ground.

Bottomline...it is more likely we have a magnetic pole shift by far before I ever be concerned about a true axis shift {shudders}...

You mean magnetic pole shift would mean life goes on? But America will become the SOUTH POLE! which means Were all FREEZE TO DEATH!!!! But Other Nations will go on living.

A magnetic shift couldn't change where the sun would hit the Earth. This country would not change its latitude and would still face the sun at the same angle, so you could not expect America to look like Antarctica.

Who says that the shift will cause volcanos and earthquakes? The only thing I can really see happening is mass flooding since the polar ice caps will melt.

VamPyroX, I'm sorry to say that Buckdodgers is correct if we have a polar axis shift that life will indeed get very, very unpleasant. You forget the effects this has on plate tetonics. Such a massive shift will move the plates with such force that earthquakes and volcanoes will be just the beginning of the end for civilization. Tsunamis, whole islands disappearing, certain areas of continents will disappear under the ocean...on it goes. With all this activity going on, the effects on the planet itself will be worst than any comet that ever landed in the past that obliterated life at that time. Just having a massive amount of volcanoes will be bad enough with the outpouring of all the gases and stuff which will darken the skies for years. It will be one long, long winter...

Don't ever take a polar axis shift lightly...

Correct. I was speaking of a magnetic pole shift not a polar axis shift. Two entirely different things. A magnetic pole shift simply means that your compass will now point to the south instead of near the north pole. It will have effects on electronics and some other things but in the scheme of things civilization can survive nicely. No massive upheavals with plate tetonics and the rest that goes with it. The earth continues to spin on its axis at 23.5 degrees relative to the plane of its orbit around the sun.

If we do have earthquakes... great! I'm looking forward to it! :)

Well, in the 1800's a pole shift did happen but only shifted about 1/2 of an inch which no one can notice. It was caused by major earthquakes in 3 different places that caused the earth axis to wobble a little bit. The moon keeps the earth at its axis, without the moon...you'll have to worry! I believe it can shift a few inches, not 90 degrees when North America or whatever is at North pole axis. I highly doubt that a major axis shift will happen, more likely a few inches at the most. Let me give you a better idea, if you have a water balloon and you try to shake it up and you can feel the water sloshing around make the ball shift around a little, similar concept as the large earthquakes can shift the earth's axis off.

Scholars and Professors believe that will happen. They studied mountains. I watched Discovery. It's no joke! It happened in million years ago. You were not born.

Er... the moon has nothing to do with the earth staying on its axis. What the moon does do is create the tidal forces of the oceans and cause the earth to wobble a tiny bit. Think of a spinning top. Its momentum as it spins is what keeps its own axis in place. As soon as the spinning motion starts to falter, the axis starts to wobble more and more. The earth is so massive (relative to us) that it has been spinning at a fairly constant but slowly reducing rate for eons. This is another way of saying that the days in the past were much shorter than they are now.

Nope, I agreed with Sequoias becuase I learned about it from my school which they taught me... That's fact.

Er...sorry, you got your facts wrong. The moon only effects the earth rotation by "slowing" it down ever so slightly along with creating a slight wobble on the axis as well. It has nothing to do with keeping earth on its axis. The earth's own angular momentum does this just fine without any help from the moon or anything else. The link below explains it better...
