My story. I met the greatest girl in the world alittle while ago. She is hearing impaired and I am not. I went to go visit her yesterday and we were sitting and talking and the subject of smoke alarms came up. She is at school and lives in an apartment by herself, so now im worried about her. If there was ever a fire I want her to be safe. she Said she can kinda hear the smoke alarm but she also stated that she cannot hear the low battery chirps. I believe she said that it is just the high pitch sounds that she cant hear. I do talk to her on the phone and she can hear me when her back is turned to me but she stated she probably wont know what I am saying to her. What do you think the best smoke alarm for her would be? Let me also state that I would like to find a smoke alarm that is battery powered, no hard wiring needed. The strobe ones seem like a good idea but if your sleeping your eyes are closed so it also kind doesnt make sense to me. I found this one on the net and it looks like it would be good Loudenlow - Smoke Alarm for the Hearing Impaired (HOH) with high frequency hearing loss. (Hear it online with your computer ) Low pitched alarm (similar to a First Alert but low pitched). Normal alarms can't be heard by many seniors. do you think this one would be the best one for her? Please forgive me for my ignorance on the subject of being hearing impaired, it is all new to me. I care for my friend very much and I look forward to learning as much as I can from this forum.
