My story. I met the greatest girl in the world alittle while ago. She is hearing impaired and I am not. I went to go visit her yesterday and we were sitting and talking and the subject of smoke alarms came up. She is at school and lives in an apartment by herself, so now im worried about her. If there was ever a fire I want her to be safe. she Said she can kinda hear the smoke alarm but she also stated that she cannot hear the low battery chirps. I believe she said that it is just the high pitch sounds that she cant hear. I do talk to her on the phone and she can hear me when her back is turned to me but she stated she probably wont know what I am saying to her. What do you think the best smoke alarm for her would be? Let me also state that I would like to find a smoke alarm that is battery powered, no hard wiring needed. The strobe ones seem like a good idea but if your sleeping your eyes are closed so it also kind doesnt make sense to me. I found this one on the net and it looks like it would be good Loudenlow - Smoke Alarm for the Hearing Impaired (HOH) with high frequency hearing loss. (Hear it online with your computer ) Low pitched alarm (similar to a First Alert but low pitched). Normal alarms can't be heard by many seniors. do you think this one would be the best one for her? Please forgive me for my ignorance on the subject of being hearing impaired, it is all new to me. I care for my friend very much and I look forward to learning as much as I can from this forum.
Thnx for all your help
John

I am hard of hearing ,too.. IMO, the best possible solutions could be flashing lamps or something vibrating in bed when sleeping :dunno2:

she uses her cell phone on vibrate as her alarm clock so that makes sense. do you know of anything like that availible? Also please excuse my ignorance is that the proper term "hard of hearing"? I would be buying this for her without her knowing, do you think this would be a good idea? I dont want to offend her in anyway, I just care about her and would like to know that she would be safe if there was a fire. But we did just start hanging out and I dont know if she would take this gift the way I am trying to mean it.

well i got a strobe one and it made her happy that i cared enough about her to think of it. she is awsome, i wish i would have met her sooner. thnx for your help.
