I want to apologize for posting incorrectly into a reply yesterday. I am embarrassed to say I have never entered a forum before. I guess I was shy. I couldn't figure out how to start a new thread. Geeez. My kids know more about this stuff than me...blush. Anyway, I am Jeanie. I am a second year ASL student, and I did not mean to offend anyone in any way. I have 9 grown kids, and my husband died in 05. I decided aftrer he died to devote what is left of my life to advocating for the Deaf community in whatever simple way I can. 4 months ago, my daughter in law had a baby girl, she is blind for life, and Deaf. We don't know the extreme of her hearing loss yet, they say it is too soon to tell. She has an inoperable nodule in her brain. I am glad I was already learning ASL and Deaf culture before she was born. That is why I am not afraid, because there is a strong Deaf community that will hopefully be there to help educate her and love her like we do.

I am particularly worried that our Deaf schools may disappear if people don't get aware. I am trying to educate my class mates through my Writing class papers. (we read each others essays to review them) Please be patient with me. I am here to learn. If I ask for opinions of information, it is only because I want to truly represent everybody's opinons in my writing. Have an awesome day!!!! :ty:

Please forgive me; I am old.

Jeanie, I'm sorry to embarass you even further, but we don't allow old people here . . . nor anyone from Oregon.

Ha ha ha, lucky for me, that's all a lie.

Welcome from another Oregunner. Hate the word "Oregonian" and never read that newspaper, because when I lip-read it, the third syllable looks like "groan" or "grown," not "gun" which is the official last sound in "Oregon."

Hi everybody I am a newbie here

My name is Cindy and I am from Branson, Missouri! I am old too like Jeanie, I am 50 and a grandmother of 4. I have 3 children and from my past life a sister in law who is deaf her name is Paula and she lives in Amarillo Texas.

Hello!!!:laugh2:

LOL. I can relate to the Oregun thing. I lived on the East Coast for a while, and they never got it right. :)

Thanks for the welcome. I feel pretty lost and shy here. I only have a few Deaf friends, and I love them dearly. I do know though, that I have a tendency to put my foot in my mouth,,, or my signing hands,, so please forgive me when I sound ignorant. Most of the hearing world is ignorant about Deaf people, which is so sad.

I love the site, and I am already learning stuff. Thanks for the welcome. :) I am still trying to figure out the buttons here. :) But I will try not to do anything to outrageous.

And,, welcome to Cindy. I have 8 grandkids now. :) So, I hope people realize that we are fragile.... LOL. It use to be that I had to drag my kids and grandkids of the puter, and now that I have a place I want to visit, they are going to have to drag me off....

Hi Dreamchaser,

Welcome to AllDeaf. Don't be embarrassed as you are learning something new. You did finally figured out how to start new topic. :)

Take your time learning through this site, it will get easier to use in time.

Hello and :welcome: to AD!

Don't worry about the ‘foot in mouth' syndrome, you'll find some of us have it too. :) Just enjoy being with us and hope to see you around with your postings. :)

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I really need it. Buttons suck when you don't know *exactly* what they will do.. LOL Where are my kids when I need them? they are all computer whizzes. But I am fifty, and only know a few programs. :) Hope to see ya around and read your posts. I am loving the discussions I have read so far. I will never get my school homework done if I keep sidetracked. teeheee...

Welcome from another oldie but goodie; I'm 57. :P

Same here, 'cept I've made a few more orbits than Reba....lol

I am also old

:birthday:Welcome from a 51 year old. There must be several of us decrepit old geezers here.:eek3:

Wow! I feel better.... :) I am so excited to find this site. There is great conversation on important topics. I really regret all of the wasted years I had never getting to know the Deaf community. It was not because I didn't want to, but because I had no clue how to communicate and did not want to be disrespectful. Everytime I looked for a Deaf chat, it ended up being a dating thing or somehthing, so I am just thankful to be here. :) If I ever learn to use the buttons correctly, it will be lot of fun. I just barely figured out how to post a new thread, and that took me hours of mistakes. :) But pray for me. I will get it eventually.

Wow, I know how that feels. My husband died in 2005. I am still lost in a way. I cried for about 18 months and had somewhat of a nervous breakdown. I pondered what I would do with the rest of my life. I decided to follow my dream and try to learn to interpret, so started back to school. I want to use what ever time God gives me left to advocate for Deaf rights. My ASL teacher is Deaf and a great friend, and she works in the department for the state that protects Deaf rights. I didn't know until I met her that there were so many hearie jerks out there that walk all over Deaf people. It really ticks me off. Anyway, I don't know how one little old lady like me can make a difference, but I will probably die trying. :) I have a new grandbaby named AVA. She has an inoperable nodule in her head. SHe is blind and Deaf. We don't know the extent of hearing loss because she is only a few months old. We have just been lucky to keep her alive. I was so glad to already have Deaf friends and small understanding of Deaf culture before she was born. I would not know what to do for her without some guidance and support from my Deaf friends. If you ever get feeling sad and just want to talk, please feel free to contact me. I can truly relate.

Jeanie

Welcome to AD. Don't let the decrepit old geezers scare you off. I'm a few years younger, so I guess I'm just an onery cuss. :D
