I want to apologize for posting incorrectly into a reply yesterday. I am embarrassed to say I have never entered a forum before. I guess I was shy. I couldn't figure out how to start a new thread. Geeez. My kids know more about this stuff than me...blush. Anyway, I am Jeanie. I am a second year ASL student, and I did not mean to offend anyone in any way. I have 9 grown kids, and my husband died in 05. I decided aftrer he died to devote what is left of my life to advocating for the Deaf community in whatever simple way I can. 4 months ago, my daughter in law had a baby girl, she is blind for life, and Deaf. We don't know the extreme of her hearing loss yet, they say it is too soon to tell. She has an inoperable nodule in her brain. I am glad I was already learning ASL and Deaf culture before she was born. That is why I am not afraid, because there is a strong Deaf community that will hopefully be there to help educate her and love her like we do.
I am particularly worried that our Deaf schools may disappear if people don't get aware. I am trying to educate my class mates through my Writing class papers. (we read each others essays to review them) Please be patient with me. I am here to learn. If I ask for opinions of information, it is only because I want to truly represent everybody's opinons in my writing. Have an awesome day!!!!
