It started out as a secret language that some kids and other people used.

Now, some places point out how pig latin works.

Sometimes, people use it in movies. Since I'm familiar with it, I understand it. Those who don't might be puzzled.

Would it be considered inappropriate? Well, it's not a bad language or anything. It's different, so there's not really anything wrong with it. :)
 
The only time I've ever known pig latin being used is in slapstick/comedies.
