Does anyone have Single Sided Deafness and use the Phonak CROS hearing aids? I'm in the process of getting a pair and I'm really excited about it but curious to see some reviews on them.

Another option is getting a softband trial of a BAHA.
 
I keep reading about BAHA, I need to do more research on it though. My audiologist thinks I would do better with Phonak CROS, I've been trying to get them for a year an a half. They're $2600, which I have saved nearly half and have someone trying to help me get a discount on them, since I make very little money. She seems to think I wont qualify for help since I still have hearing in my right ear. Which is getting progressively worse, so she won't know for sure until I get my new hearing test. SUCH a process haha
 
If you have hearing loss in your good ear than you will need a Bi Cros. I know two people with them and they both said it took a while to get used to them, but they like them. I also know someone with a Cros and he only wears it when he's driving or at work. He says his hearing is fine at home when he doesn't have someone talking into his deaf ear.
 
I would probably do the same thing. I'm a Hairstylist, I would need them with the constant sound of clippers and hair dryers, I can hardly ever hear what my guests are saying. I'm just afraid I won't qualify for help with my hearing aids. I can't remember what decibel she said my right (good) ear had to be in order for it to be considered "deaf enough" for help. Not that I am hoping to be more deaf, I know it is eventually going to be gone, probably within the next few years. It would be nice to use hearing aids in the mean time. Just can't afford them full price.

At the moment, I wear 2 Naida UPs but I am thinking about going the BiCros route as my left picks up very very little and all I seem to be doing is just vibrating my eardrum instead.
 
Have you contacted your vocational rehab office to see if they'll help you get the HAs? You don't have to be significantly deaf to qualify. If it's affecting your work then they may help. Of course, it also depends on if they have the funding to help.

Yeah, the lady that is helping me with all of this is with Vocational Rehab. The one in my area wouldn't even consider me because they said I'm only half deaf, so I called the Springfield office and they're are trying very hard to help me. I just scheduled my next hearing test for a few weeks from now, so I won't know until then if I will qualify. What a wait.

What is the cause of your hearing loss in your bad ear?

What is the cause of your hearing loss in your bad ear? I would go back to the the first VOC office and hand them out one ear plug each and tell them to wear it for a couple days and see how well they do.

You have no idea how badly I want people to do that sometimes. It drives me bananas. My hearing loss is genetic on my dads side. It just went away gradually over a few months then was gone. Its been that way for 7 years now. I honestly don't even remember what its like to have stereo and be able to hear on that side. I only ever use my phone on my good side and I have a phobia of walking next to people if they're on my left. haha plus driving sucks. I can't hear whats beside me. Freaks me out.
 
I've been deaf in my right ear since I was about 3 yrs old. I started using the cross a couple of years ago. Overall the functionality of it is great, it doesn't help me identify where sound is coming from at all. I didn't expect it to either, it is really effective when having people come up on my deaf side, I don't need to turn my head or re position myself to get them on my "good" side. I can even use the phone on my deaf side which is totally foreign to me, feel awkward. I really like having the option of doing so though.

The only real down side is the battery life, I go through batteries about every 2-1/2 days. I'm fairly active since the HAs go in at about 6AM and are on until about 11PM. I have had no issues with connectivity between the two aids. I have the Phonak Naida top of the line aid for the primary.

I recently switched to the ReSound Link for the iPhone connectivity and absolutely love that functionality. They don't have a wireless cross like Phonak so I've only got one HA with that set up. I really wish Phonak would use the phone for a remote, I have the phonak remote and its a PITA and the interface sucks. I hate t-coil loops so I rarely used my iCom and it broke still. There are so many great features to the iPhone interface and adjustablilty, but I'll leave that out since thats not what you're interested in.

I have the cross, but not the latest. As I understand it, the latest can do things identical to the aid, where as before, it was just a mike. My cross does help, but I don't wear it in all environments. In fact, I'm not sure if it is even waterproof.

I'm not sure what you mean by identical, but I believe it has directional mics on it if that is what you're referring to. Mine is definitely not water proof, do they make a fully water proof HA?
 
It would be nice to have some thing that connected to my phone but I feel it would cost an awful lot for the extra stuff. I am, however get the phonak cross h2o that is also dust resistant since I'm a hairdresser and around water and hair products. I'm hearing good things which is nice. I wish I had them now but I still have to wait for my yearly hearing test before they fit me for them.

I switched to the Resound Linx, not cros. The iPhone connectivity is AWESOME.

Phone calls wireless through HA
Videos/music stream wireless to HA
Turn phone into remote mic for HA

The best part of all is you can control the HA mic volume indepently in each of the functions above. So I can mute the HA mic to block background noise or just turn it down. I can also adjust the treble and bass for each program.

You don't need a secondary remote like Phonak, no T-coil loop too. I miss the cross, but the connectivity and wireless blue tooth is too good. Too many accessories with Phonak and limited control with the remote.

Being able to adjust the mic volume on the HA is really a great feature.
