PC vs Mac

Easy! Take the hard drive out of the computer, open the cover of hard drive in filthy environment, disassemble the disc and run under strong magnetic field, then smash it. Its gone forever! Actually once the hard drive cover opens the damage is DONE UNLESS its open in super ultra clean room. Then the rest you can trash it without worry about data being stolen.

Are you talking to the wrong poster? You said things that doesn't refer to my quote. :P

This is one of my reasons why I hate Macs.

Hi LuciaDisturbed

I believe that you worked on older operating system such as OS 9. Mac OS X has a major change and a lot of improvements. I don't mind if you still hate it. That's ok.

Beside, I love my Apple computer that comes with Mac OS X.

In fact, I really hate Mac OS 9 because of high risk of viruses and security holes.

Mac OS X has the most stable - never frozen system, and a lot of interesting things that you may not know about. There is a dashboard which provides you to select a weather info, look up TV channels, another one TV that tells me if a show is rerun, etc. These things that I selected and they are combined in the dashboard. Nice features. It is a sort of like the websites are combined in one screen.

XP Windows does not have that dashboard, but I hope that someday it will be a similar one. I am disappointed to hear that IBM PC still have security holes. Actually, Mac OS X does have a few tiny security holes, but of course, Apple employees always fix them right away. No major serious problem so far. IBM employees cannot fix it fast because of the "spider-programs" that have to be run together in order to work proper. That's why it takes a lot of time for them to be careful, but it never stop new problems.

Mac OS 9 had a spider-program because it was a huge mess, and too many hours for them to re-fix them. Mac OS X is straight and clean - no spider-programs. They learned a big lesson big time a few years ago.

It is a good thing that we had to give up Mac OS 9 and along with older software that do not compatible with OS X. I still do not understand that some people still use OS 9 on their old computer especially high risk of viruses so I'm backoff.

I prefer to let people to make their own decision to buy a computer. Hmm. I am hoping that you might consider to buy a new Apple computer someday. Never buy a used computer and even older software.

YES this one is very true! Mac OS X is the best operating system on the planet. no more complaint about it. I enjoyed my laptop 3 years since I first brought it. Nothing is wrong with it. Mac OS 9 I was so painful I had to clean extension to avoid the crash.

Mac OS X

Website: www.apple.com/macosx
Company/
developer: Apple Computer
OS family: BSD
Source model: Closed source (Darwin foundation is open source)
Latest stable release: 10.4.7 / June 27, 2006
Kernel type: Hybrid kernel
Default user interface: Aqua
License: Apple EULA (parts available under APSL)
Working state: Current

Mac OS X (officially pronounced "Mac OS Ten") is a line of proprietary, graphical operating systems developed, sold, and marketed by Apple Computer, the latest of which is included with all currently-shipping Apple Macintosh computers. Mac OS X is the successor to the original Mac OS, which had been Apple's primary operating system since 1984. Unlike its predecessor, Mac OS X is a multi-user, pre-emptively multitasking, Unix-like operating system built on technology that had been developed at NeXT through the second half of the 1980's and up until Apple Computer purchased the company in early 1997. The operating system was first released in 1999 as Mac OS X Server 1.0, with a desktop-oriented version (Mac OS X v10.0) following in March, 2001.

The server edition, Mac OS X Server, is architecturally identical to its desktop counterpart but usually runs on Apple's line of Macintosh server hardware. Mac OS X Server includes workgroup management and administration software tools that provide simplified access to key network services, including a mail server, a Samba server, a directory server, and a domain name server.

I can agree with you on that, too! I have been using Mac OS X since it first came out in 2000. It was very slow like molasses, but was a HUGE improvement after a few upgrades. I love it much more than Mac OS 9. I remember how speedy Mac OS 9 was, but had some security holes and it crashes the whole OS if the program crashes. In OS X, it doesn't. I can "abuse" the program and it won't crash the whole OS X and have to reboot the system. ;)

Yes Mac OS 9 was lightning fast. But Mac OS X is different and has kernel that works like multi tasks that slice most of CPU clock speed. Mac OS 9 does one task that took the most of clock speed that you noticed its faster.

Rumor inside Apple that they might rewrite kernels that work faster that preferred on Intel CPUs. I like PowerPC because it can run faster on large memory.

Ok suppose we say, "Mac vs PC vs Linux" thread instead of two. Here you discuss about Linux. I also know alittle about. You can share with us. :)

Ha. Nothing to wrong with Apple and PC.

Remember Windows XP is very old since 2001.

I try Vista and it really nice but it need powerful video card with DirectX10 and 1GB of ram or more. Sound not good for old computers.

Apple is best for graphic art and Edit video.

Pc is best for hardware (autobody, builder, cops, etc..)

Do you think PC is better than mac?

:ugh3:
Depends on the application. In the past the MAC was better for desktop publishing, animiation, music and video recording etc, but nowadays the PC's are more powerful and the operating systems more stable. I would suggest that it's down to a matter of preference at this point but I would say in the past the MAC was probably the better of the two. Not so much the case anymore. IMHO

Macs are still more stable than Windows computers. I have a PowerBook at home (Mac) and a Windows computer at work. I can use both equally well, but the Mac machine is easier to use, more stable, more secure, and just more 'fun' to use.

Macs can run Linux and Windows, if you have an Intel Mac.

Windows Vista will release in Jan 2007 but too longer for me...

I bet it would more bug and problem like laggy when Windows Vista getting old like after 1-2 years.

The latest Ubuntu Linux release was...last month! The one before that was in October of 2005! Why is the latest Windows version still XP? Linux has changed quite a bit since 2001, but Windows? It was supposed to be released 3 years ago, and now they're still talking about delaying it. I'm glad I use an OS that is normally released every 6 months (and if they take longer than 6 months, they release the next version on the normal October/April schedule). The latest release, Dapper, was only 1.5 months late, but the next version is 4 months after Dapper instead of the normal 6.

I indeedly think about buying new intel Mac sometime this year. I love Mac. Mac OS X is already here you all guys don't need to wait for Window Vista!

To clarify: ANY Mac, even the old 68k ones, can run Linux.

I'm thinking of getting an Intel Mac and using Linux and Mac OS X on it.

Yup! The releases of newer Linux is fairly predictable. They usually comes out every 6 months. I think M$ is too busy trying to plug in every possible holes in their "Swiss cheese" style OS!

I'll be a contrarian...I choose Linux over both the PC (assumes Windows) and Mac!
I'll one-up ya! I'm a Commodore guy.

Seriously, I use a PC that has dual-boot capabilities, and just boot either into Windows XP or FC5 Linux. This way, I get the best of both worlds. I would love getting a Mac, but they're still too expensive.

Mac, too expensive? HA!!! You can get a intel Mac Mini for only $600.
