For AD PC gamers, I'm wondering what you run on your PC's for playing games like Doom 3, Command and Conquer, the Sid Meier games, etc?

I'm running an 1.8G AMD Athlon64 with 512 megs of DDR RAM, a 64 meg GeForce4GTS 440-GO laptop 3D accelerator on a 15.4" widescreen TFT LCD display. Impressive specs for a laptop that will play most of the games available now.

Last night I came back to 2 of my old favorite PC games, Need for Speed 5: Porsche Unleashed and Need for Speed 4: High Stakes. Both games are 5 and 6 years old respectively. Since I hadn't had my own PC for 4 years since I killed my 366 Celeron with 64 megs RAM, 8 megs Nvidia TNT and 15" CRT monitor. Both games showed markedely much improvements, especially the physics and graphics, after they were installed on the Athlon64.

I'm so amazed at how good AMD is at running my games compared to when I had Intel PC's. So I guess the Athlon64 really made me a convert :)

Hmm I got a Alienware custom with AMD athlon XP 2600+ so yea I need a upgrade. Thinking of gettin fx-53 but gonna need to upgrade my mother board as well for this to fit in. 512mb of ram but will be 1gb soon. I also have a geforce 5200 ultra. Believe it or not this card works for doom 3 and HalfLife 2  but will upgrade to geforce 6800 ultra anyway.

I builded this custom computer. It is: Intel P4 3.06 Ghz with Hyperthreading technology, 2 GB DDR RAM (four of 512 DDR RAM) and GeForce FX 5700 (256mb verison) on 19" ViewSonic monitor. So far, I can play any games without lagging and such... Thank god. I got this old Gateway computer (800 mhz) that I used for almost four years... I couldn't play KOTOR on that old computer until this custom computer that I am using right now.

I prefer Intel over AMD because of overheating issue. On AMD-computers, 3D applications (modeling, animating, etc) tend to cause the overheating problem. I dunno if they already fix AMD's overheating problem.. the last time I heard, it was like one and half year ago so that may be 'old' news or glitch. I played Doom3 with High Quality setting without any problem. I did tried Ultra Quality setting and it couldn't let me play the game (kept getting the error)
