Paula Deen Fired for using Racial Slur

A racist remark is a racist remark. The cracker remark was supposedly uttered by a 17-year-old and quoted by another teen (19). That teen stated emphatically that it was not a racist comment.

I'm not excusing Deen for what she said but pointing out that condemnation of racist language is not equally enforced.

she's a teen. who cares what teens think? they're all always wrong anyway

Racism is a prejudice directed against someone of a specific race. It has nothing to do with majorities or minorities.

the irony is that most racially-offensive terms are created by majorities for minorities.

Paula Deen's business shaken by controversy - Jun. 27, 2013
In an attempt to stop the hemorrhaging, Paula Deen has hired Smith & Company, the crisis-management firm run by Judy Smith -- the inspiration for the hit ABC show Scandal -- according to a source familiar with the arrangement. Smith has served as a consultant for a host of high profile clients including Monica Lewinski, Michael Vick, Wesley Snipes and Jill Kelley, the mistress of former CIA director General David Petraeus.

I guess she needs Oliver Pope

it's not what you heard. it's how these terms were created.

I'm not saying that oppression doesn't agrivate and create racism. We all know it does. What i'm saying is plenty of people who are minorities are racist too. They are just as bad as every other racist.

I should have said it has nothing to do with if you are a minority or majority. You could be either one.

OK..I am not really keeping up with this. At first I thought she said it recently but I just learned that she said it 27 years ago. If so and some of you are saying she should be careful what she should say in public. She wasn't a public figure 27 years ago, wasn't she?

Like if I said something stupid now as a regular Joe and then 10 or 15 years later, I become internationally known, would I get punished for that stupid remark?

It is a matter of what kind of responsibilities we carry as regular citizens as opposed to the kind of responsibilities a well known person has. I have seen it happen to my uncle.

Is that fair?

Oh, make sense, you will only hear if you are from southern states.

no. nobody has heard of it. it's a made-up term like "cracka-ass jack" or "scaredy-ass cracker"

I heard a different term with "cracker" - especially "cracker ass" from black people over southern state.

Trayvon Martin said it on the cell phone to the witness that testified at the George Zimmerman trial. Martin used that and the n-word when he was describing Zimmerman.

Not surprised when saying "N' word to non-black people - I have seen happen like that in Georgia - black man call "N' word to white man so white man call "N" word back to black man - they are best buddies. :aw:

I don't think Martin and Zimmerman were best buddies.

my point is - "cracker" is a real term. people have used it in many different ways however they like it such as "creepy-ass cracker", "cracka-ass cracker", "drunk-ass crazy cracka-ass cracker", etc.
