It's not against the law, is it? But it's being done everywhere. I find it disgusting and made my feelings known to the cashiers many times. Bong pipes, marijuana papers, little cigars, all types of merchandise used by druggies right there on the counter being sold.
One of my sons asked me what a glass pipe was used for?

And we "wonder" why kids get into drugs when the parapheralia is so readily available? I've even had a child standing outside a store asking me if I would buy him a cigar! And kids also asking for $$ to buy marijuana papers.

I have always wondered why it was legal to sell pipes that are used to inhale the hard-core drugs.

The little cigars and beer bongs do not bother me. It is the stuff for hard-core drugs like meth, coccaine, or whatever being sold at stores that really puzzled me.

I'm not sure why bongs are considered marijuana paraphernalia when pipe smokers can and do use them to cool their smoke as well. Marijuana papers are really just roll your owns which some people use because they are poor and cannot afford ready rolled cigarettes and others use because they prefer their own mix of tobacco.

While I am aware druggies are the ones who use these things the most I don't understand why they are the only ones considered to be users.

My late wife loved incense. It surprised me both the number of marijuana smokers and non marijuana smokers who were convinced we smoked it because they could conceive of no other reason for using incense.

I'm also confused as to how the word "paraphernalia" became the double word "drug paraphernalia". The word once meant a married woman's personal property but in modern times means those things associated with some one or something. Such as a needle is sewing paraphernalia.

Pipes are used for smoking. In order to eliminate all smoking paraphernalia we must make all tobacco against the law. Health wise that probably isn't such a bad idea.

Here in California our legislator is well on their way to legalizing marijuana.

It should be interesting to see what happens.

Berry, about the incense..my daughter told my ex hubby that we love using it and he paged me asking me if we are smoking weed. Oh brother.

My mother taught me that naive people don't understand or respect how much evil there is in the world and sophisticated people don't understand or respect how much innocence exists in the world.

When I was single I would go to the tobacco store and buy pipe tobacco which I would take home, open, and set one in each room.

People would get upset when i would not allow smoking in my house.

glass pipes are not just for pot , people who smoke pipe tobacco also like them for that.

Re: incense

My answer would be, "No, I just have smelly dogs!"

Sorry for taking this thread off-topic, Robin. I understand your concerns.

LOL! It's so funny that some people think that using incense means that you're smoking weed. So not true! I've used incense plenty of times and never smoked weed. LOL, Sally. I like that answer!

I remember one time, when my hubby, who is hearing impaired, and I first moved in together. I had burned an incense before he got home from work and he asked what the scent he was smelling. I told him that I had burned incense. He had that disgusted and shocked expression on his face and asked, "You burned insects?" :laugh2: Then, I just cracked up and told him more clearly, "Incense, not insects."

:rofl2:

The cashiers don't make the decisions to carry that merchandise. Take it to the owner or manager.

Of course, but only if you can catch the owner or the manager. Most stores have employees. I've asked to speak to the manager before, but he/she was not there (I'm told). Even if I did vocal my concern and anger and rant about it, would it make a difference?? Nah! It's not illegal to do this (they say).

There is nothing illegal about it. People also use those things for smoking tobacco. My guess is that they were available for tobacco long before people started using them for weed.

Something new for me to learn. I always thought the pipes were made for inhaling the hard-core drugs. Interesting that they were converted for illegal use.

Yeah.

Those things sold are actually legal. It's illegal if you use them for the wrong purpose.

For instance, it's legal to buy a gun... but illegal to kill someone (for wrong reasons).

Those papers... often known as ZigZags. There's nothing illegal about them. People who prefer non-filtered cigarettes hand-rolled will use these. If a person decides to use these to roll up marijuana, then that's their choice and illegal.

Same with pipes.

The reason why a lot of people make a big deal out of them is because whenever people hear about these things, it's when these things are associated with bad things.

I have friends who use ZigZags to roll up their own cigarettes. It's cheaper and something they like to do during their free time. If they bum a cigarette from someone else, they simply break off the filter and smoke it without the filter. I also have friends who like to smoke cloves and they like fancy stuff instead of the boring old pipe. Ever seen an old pipe that's colored like a zebra, rainbow, leopard, polka dots, etc?

Yippers - my brother collects pipes of all kinds. Hand carved, antique and common. He has one that is made from a walrus tusk and another from Africa that is made from some animal poop that was dried hard.

It's not illegal to possess drug paraphernalia but it gives police probable cause to search. A friend got pulled over with a cigarette cutter in plain view and the police ripped her car apart, even pulling off the door panels. She should have put the cigarette cutter out of sight and refused a search. She didn't have any drugs but having door panels ripped off is a bad experience.
