Paralympic hopeful prosthetic legs stolen

They are very light I doubt there is much metal value in those. Probably carbon fiber with a little aluminum Maybe very small amounts of titanium

At a scrap yard those would go to the precious metel pile,
But
Im sure they coukd be modified too...
If its for a wuick fix really a 40 piece or bag would do....
I saw all sorts of things come snd go viw junkie.hands....
Or
It was personsal..

But would those that took them know that? They look like metal.

This is why drug users suck. Between half and 3/4 of all pretty theft and burglary is committed to support drug or alcohol addictions.
Look at the percentages of people who were under the influence when they committed crimes. Sure it is worse now. This was a study done by the justice department.

But you would think a junk yard would the running blades were stolen , I guess some people just do not any compassion today . :(

I was driving up my street once and I saw one of my neighbor prosthetic leg had fallen off and someone was trying to hold the guy up and put his leg
back on. I stopped my car and got out and helped hold the guy up while his leg was out back on. I told someone about this and she was grossed out. I was grossed out
by the woman reaction. She would not had helped.

It dependS on the yard...really....
i woukd hazaed a guess these blades were targetted, and so,eone bought them for what ever the reason. and they were sold before they were stolen...
I doubt they enxed uo in a pile at the local metel yard.
But thats just me and experience, who knows

OK, I got the answers from my daughter (her husband is a below-the-knee amputee).

She said that the carbon fiber foot/blade could be reused by another amputee if a new socket is made and adjustments made. It wouldn't be as optimal as a custom one but it would work. So, sadly, there is a black market for them.

Each leg does have a serial number engraved, so they can be traced. If the buyer is reputable, they would check for the number, the same as a pawn shop owner would check for the number on guns, and a car lot would check VINs.

The scrap value for the carbon fiber wouldn't be much. Recycling places value materials by the ton, so a couple of pounds isn't much.

Blade running has become more popular, so I guess there's a market out there for them. The cost for the running foot usually has to be borne by the amputee because it's not "necessary."

Hope the guy sets up a go fund me or something. If people give almost 1 million to an anti LBGT pizza restaurant, hopefully they will fund this guy's new legs

Shame on people that will buy a black market foot/blade !

With all the publicity that this guy has received for his stolen running legs whomever stole them basically has something that unless they are going to use them themselves probably has something they can no longer get rid of. It wouldn't surprise me if the guys legs show up on his doorstep. This same thing happened to an amputee in CA recently and they got the story on the nightly news and within a week the guys leg mysteriously showed up on his porch.
