Oh dear. I didn't realize this was going to turn into this kind of debate. The next time I'd like a description, perhaps it would be best if I send someone a PM. :)

Yeah, HA, I hope your checking this out comes to fruition because there's already some of us who like to help but are leery and waiting, ....hoping.

I'm now reading page 2. I will be back with additional comments as I read each post.

Reba is right in a way but has omitted some things from the political cartoon..It is two white uniform police officers that shot and killed a black chimpanzee with 3 bullets with the one white police officer saying, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."

:ty: Byrdie. Your description gives an entirely different meaning to the cartoon. Without the quote, it's impossible for me to understand the cartoon since the only image I'm picturing are 2 police officers and a dead chimpanzee. When you add the quote, it makes perfect sense because I know that Obama represents the dead chimpanzee and reference is being made to his stimulus package.

No, you aren't hiding anything. You were simply attempting to manipulate the interpretation by omitting things.

The quote was an important part of the cartoon. Imagine what it's like for a Deaf/deaf person to watch TV without any sound. That's what it's like when you describe a picture to a blind or deafblind person without quotations/commentary. Instead of having 100% understanding, you only have 50%.

I finished reading the entire thread. :ty: to everyone who took the time to describe the cartoon to me! :)

Hear Again,

Reba forget to add one of 2 police officers's comment "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."in her description to you.

That's all.

Please don't get me wrong. I'm not calling Reba a liar or criticizing her. All I'm saying is that missing a quotation from the description of a cartoon can cause someone who can't see it to be confused about its' meaning.

I didn't leave the quoted part out to deceive you. The text of the cartoon had already been discussed so I thought you had that. I truly believed you requested only the picture of the scene described. I figured if anyone wanted to add more details or put their own interpretation of the cartoon in a post they could.

I seriously wish that web masters would enforce the ADA and require alt text with all images. Then you wouldn't have to depend on "volunteer" after-the-fact descriptions.

I'm sorry that my description wasn't complete for you. It's too bad other posters couldn't just rectify my omission without prefacing it with critical analysis.

Again, I really thought you already knew the text from before. I'm sorry for involving you in this mess.

hear again,

i rather someone to post it to give description here instead of pming you.

Two reasons:
1) i am at work that i can't view any kind of popular links aka pictures or videos at all. with their description here is real helpful for anyone who have blocked sites that related with the pictures or videos.

2) I like to see those people's opinions to give answers differently than what i see in the picture. no no of course not, I don't meant to call them as liar people or manilpute the descriptions. no no This is why any pictures led us to see or make opinions so differently. It would gives each of us to realize why others think that way or the other ways.

editted: hear again, i know you can judge from others giving you description, the more information with two different opinions to give you the idea what pictures are.

You've brought up some good points Frisky -- all of which I agree with. The more people who can describe an image, the better it is for all of us -- not just blind and deafblind ADers. :)

That's okay, Reba. No problem. :) I'm sorry you ended up being in the middle of this as well and I appreciate your description. :ty:

By the way, I usually read posts from the most recent to the oldest. It's easier for me that way with my screen reader and Braille display since I don't have to search for the last post I saw, type a reply and then go back to the original page I was reading.

By the way Reba, I couldn't agree with you more about the ADA and alt text. :)

Exactly.

Because when an individual says, "chimpanzee" and not mentioned the color of it can be a little misleading as there are a variety of color chimpanzees out there.

Now if it was two white officers killing a white chimpanzee....I think the outcome would've been different.

This thought crossed my mind as well and did cause some confusion. Good point, Byrdie. :)

What is a "white" chimpanzee? I didn't know they had "color" or races. Or do you mean an albino chimp?

Good to see some levity here after having gone thru the above.....machinations, schemes, etc? Glad all's well.

Apparently white chimpanzees are common--here is a You Tube link of a white chimpanzee and it isn't a albino.
