The way I see the whole mulatto.org is like how people embrace Deaf superstars as "hearing-impaired" and Deaf people embrace oral deaf as "Deaf."

Obama never identify himself as a mulatto, despite other people who lay claim to it, so therefore he is not one.

The problem with the whole "white" versus "black" is that the term "black" became a cultural term. "White" still remains a racial term, not a cultural term. Big difference there.

It isn't quite so cut and dry there in trying to compare these things. Rather unwieldy in trying to do so. Again, go ask. Heck, there are over 1200 scholar papers on the subject of "mulatto" for the year 2009. It's only derogatory if you make is so just as one would with the description of black, white, or whatever.
