RoyalMajesty, government health programs generally are very very stingy. Even the majority of private health insurances won't cover the cost of a second CI. You'll probaly get ONE CI, but don't hold your breath on two.

True...

move to canada, that is my suggestion lol.. when i got my ci, i didn;t have to pay a cent for it.. health insurance pays for everything..

You got CI for free because of universal health center (free medical center) then if its true then you need give more information and help her to move in Canada. :)

and darkangel, I doubt that there are any deafies in Canada with bilateral CI, funded by the governement.....the government tends to want to only cover basic health care costs.....and with CI, there really isn't a huge difference in hearing with two CIs.

Should I become CI salesperson? I feel like about 100 kids got implanted get alot of good money.

Sounds about right. However, I have heard of several people really went at the health insurance companies about it and after going through many hurdles (all kinds of justifications) they finally got a second one. Again, I agree that you shouldn't hold your breath about getting a second one.

True, but that's probaly either b/c they have semidecent lawyers or b/c their other ear was totally and completly dead.
Seriously, unless both ears are dead, I would probaly request a high powered hearing aid for the unimplanted ear. There ARE options.....like experimenting with different types of aids, trying a body worn aid (in some cases, like in ambigious cases a body worn aid might be able to boost the residual hearing more then a BTE) or those hearing aids that are high frequncy transponders)
