I don't use Hotmail... I think they moved to Outlook.com, but you can keep your original Hotmail address. What version your IE or other browser is?

I found this FAQ regarding your situation: My Hotmail account was upgraded to Outlook.com - Microsoft Windows Help that might help you...

Did you make sure that SMTP port that have "pop3.live.com" or "smtp.live.com", Port #xxx correctly set and check mark if it use SSL security and your Email addy and password for log in?

This may be the cause of failure to send.

Google search "Hotmail SMTP Server" Here's the link that MIGHT help you

wow - alot of assumptions here. Are you using a pc and checking via browser? or an email app on a phone/tablet? chcking via browswer? or are you using a mail program? There are alot of ways to do the same thing . Its just a matter of preference and what you have now or want to get.

I believe she's using browser - Outlook.com is Microsoft's new "Hotmail" service as they discontinued Hotmail service. It seems she is having hard time sending out her email to someone with Outlook.com website. It's likely it has something to do with setup or older version browser.
