Guess what? I was shocked ... rather so unbelievable.

It has happened to us the first time out of blue. Yesterday afternoon I was emailed an alert of suspecting activity in my account which I was glad that I have that feature.

I just found out that somebody or whoever stole our money from my check card yesterday even we still have it with us, geez.

It was 3 stolen transcations made within an hour or so. 2 were done in my state, FL and another one was done thru Western Union in MO.

One was $551 from Western Union (Mo) and other two were made somewhere in FL with $100 and $60. Total = $710

I then called my bank and stopped my check card since somebody had my check card numbers somehow. I wondered really how? geez

They will send me a new one with different numbers. But I will be very dreaded to use check card from now on but likely will use it much less than I usually do. Rarely use the ATM myself.

Later in the noon time my wife and I will go to the local bank to work them out and file claims in order to recover these stolen money back.

I will find out more later in the noontime or so because these transcations are still in pending currently.

We plan to report that to the police after the bank, too. We will definitely want to know how they did so I can improve its security.

I have heard stories from people who experienced being stolen in variables before. It never has happened to me before since I use the same check card since 4 years ... poof... behold, it has happened.

My only thoughts: thief or theives :rl: !!!!

So obviously, you, everyone, and we have to be extra more careful how to use the check card like ATM and even in the stores everywhere.

And that it seems like CASH is the best way to use wherever we go, huh?!

That sucks sorry that happened I hope they catch whoever did iit.

Yep, I hope so. They both must be connected somehow. They all of 3 transcations were made within an hour or so. MO and FL.

I really hope that Western Union has a tv camera with recorder to catch the guy who took my money there. It will show the signature different than mine. Do they? I wonder.

If you see something like this ^ do not respond but report to the adminstration. That is bad email and wanting your information about your bank so they can use it. I never response to that kind of email but to report the spam.

web, so sorry that happened.. shame on the thieves!
I hope you are changing info for your checks so the stolen ones are invalid.

In Norway, we do not use personal checks but we have a payment system (giro) to transfer funds account to account and rely on credit/debit cards.

Ouch that sucks! I hope you get your 700$ back.

Liza, this may be off topic, but I remember reading in Norwegian newspaper, VG, about how some guys in Bergen managed to steal money from people's bank accounts of people who used certain ATM machines. BTW, check cards is same as debit cards, really, except that some of them are without VISA logos.

Nope. It was sent by my bank that I set up feature to send me an alert of any suspecting activity with account(s). Then thereafter I checked my account then I found out about these 3 unarthorised transcations.

My bank has that feature for its customers. Some banks don't have it as I understand. I use it since 2 years or so. It's helpful and even let me know of any deposits or withdrawals done. Just set the suspecting amount at its mininum to set alert on whenever it happens.

So that was how I was noticed and stop my check card fast. If not for that feature they could steal more and more before later I find out by attending at the bank or check it out online.

As of current they are still in pending, sigh. So after they post done, I will now more and file claims for them to recover. Probably by tmw am.

I've had my checkcard numbers stolen last spring, RIGHT BEFORE I was supposed to move down to Texas. But luckily I caught it early before the fucktard spent more money...I just happened to want to check my online account, saw that there were 2 charges of $50 each...I was like WTF...called the bank...bank told me that someone used my checkcard number at a casino or something (it said "Pleasure Poker" on the account activity page) I was like WTF because I do not gamble with money, I never do that. So I told them, no, I did not authorize those purchases, and I had to cancel my card and get a new one. Even though I needed the access to my money for moving, I could NOT risk not cancelling the card and having the person still having access to my card and spending more money on it..I was worried that if I did not cancel my card, they would spend ALL 3 grand of my money...and I would have NO money to get to Texas and to put down the money for my apartment. *sighs* so I cancelled the card, and used my paper checks only for the move. I could not freeze my account, though, because I needed that money for moving (I was due to move in like 5 days). And since it was only a total of $100 I was not particularly concerned about catching the fucktard who did it...I was more concerned about me having access to my money for the gas money, for the money for my apt, food, new bed, etc. And as soon as I got settled down, I dealt with the whole mess, filled out forms saying that those 2 purchases were NOT authorized, blah blah blah. Bank did investigation into it and they gave me my $100 back. Now I am very careful and I check my bank account VERY often and I will raise hell if there is an unauthorized charge on my card. I don't know if they caught the fucktard, though...

I don't use a credit card but I did lose my driver's license recently and and I just found out from the debt collectors that someone is racking up huge credit debts and using my address as her home address. I am the only who lives there. I'll be calling the debt collectors and get this straightened out. :rl:

Oh boy, that rather is a difficult case to clear out. I hope yours get cleaned. Do it as quick as possible and screw them theives.

Did your driver's license include your SS#? Seem like it did since the credit card applications usually do require SS#, right?

Ouch that's stinks to have your money stolen from your account, but I do hope you will get every cents back...

No, it did not have my SSN number on it. It's against NC law to have your SSN number on it. :)

It happened to me before, not by check card like yours, but with just a routine number on the bottom of the checks which would be your checking account number, Someone paid two celluar phones under my name with my routine checking account number and it automatically withdraw the money out of my checking account, and another one in Florida paid an electric bill with my routine number also. I found out after getting a statement from my banking, and was clueless about the withdrawing, I went to the bank and filled out a form which they had no authorization to take money out of my account because I did not brought any cellular phones and I do not even live in the state of Florida to pay an electric bill, I did filled a police report and they discovered that someone I know, knew my social security number and did a background check with my social security number to get information about my banking. I had to closed the account and the bank did refund me back all the money that was taken out of my account without my permission. :)

I remember something about that, too - the thieves used a hidden scanner or some kind of spy thing at the ATM machine. Now I just check everywhere in the ATM machine for foreign objects that do not belong there! ;)

I just don't like them asking me to see the signature on my card!!! That is one way these crooks gets extra information
How? There is AVS number next to signature where you use to prove on internet that it is you. What a STUPID idea of these card issuer companies! Many of con artist can memorize number fast as easy.
3 numbers is way too easy!!! MOFO!

I mean, do you really trust that cash register at retail stores? I don't!!!

That is called Identity thief!
Calling debt collector is just tip of iceberg! Hope you got homeowners insurance or renter insurance that have id thief coverage. If not, it will drag you for few years to get it straighten out. Be prepare for that!

Let u all know, Stolen Identity is nothing new. It started back in 1992, I am sure before that, but the real case started in 1992, there was NO law against that! Unfuckbelieveable... During that time, President Clinton was there... What he do? He thinks NOTHING of this and ignored it. I watch the documentary on TV, CHAMP!!! That woman stole another woman's Identity. DId alot things, all started with what? Just a SSN! That SSN was the only thing that she needs to get started, then address and viola apply for credit on her (Victim) name and SSN without even you knowing it!

I don't think credit card, credit bureau is doing enough to stop this ID thieves! In fact, I see they are making it easier for ID thieves. Anyway, thanks George Bush for signing into law making ID thieves as recongized illegal activity and makes it federal crime! After 10 friggin years, What Clinton did? GAWD!

I know what you mean by this. I have hated too. But more more I see when I go to the store and use the machine and then sign it on the machine with plastic pen and then put my card in my purse so that the cash register never bother look at my card. That one thing I like about it. Another thing I like is go to self register checkout so I can do the transcation to myself without having cash register asking me for my card. That is another thing I like.
