I guess because they said it could cause her to have difficulty learning to speak.

Welcome to AD,

I strongly suggest you to read thorough those all threads about deafness and deaf issues. By the way, well for me, I don't consider its a bad news because i was born deaf.

I have a good life, and so are others who were born deaf too.

Clearly I picked the wrong forum to get some advice. I apologize and will delete my original post if I can.

I think you came to the right forum. Just that you would have time to read through the threads about deaf issues, such as experiences, and what to do and go on.

oh ha okay. sorry you deleted - was going to give you some advices, now it's gone. only asked to know your perspectives more.

not everyone is deaf here, some are deaf in one ear and some are hearing and have worked with deaf people very well -- they may help you better.

I guess, bye then?

Hello and Welcome!

I can understand the shock of finding out that your child is deaf in one ear and thinking it's all doom. However, it doesn't have to be that way. Just take your time to learn about deafness from reading on here and others.

The only advice I have is to not rush into anything especially what the doctors may be pushing you into doing right away. There is nothing wrong with taking it slow and learn all you can from all possible sources. You can find most if not all possible views on here.

Good Luck and I wish you well with your new child. Most of all, enjoy having the child and being a good parent.

I am also the parent of a child with a hearing loss, please don't leave!!

I would love to share resources and information with you. I didn't get to read your first post, and I'm sorry if you don't feel like you found the support you needed.

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. Roykirk, you just have to accept your child as being deaf on one ear and learn to live with it. I was born with both ears being deaf and never bother me until I became almost 9 years old when I first wore my first hearing aid on the left ear only. I was surprise to hear sounds, mostly environment sounds. That bother me a lot. I am just happy being deaf. Being deaf is what we all experience whether we were born deaf or late deafend (meaning became deaf later in the years after being hearing for a long time or short time).

I agree with Frisky Feline that it is good for you to explore and read the posts of ADers's experiences trying to explain to hearing people. So don't reject us just because it's bad news about being deaf. Being deaf is not bad at all. It just happen for a reason or for no reason. Just have to learn to accept it. I do hope you can stay on and learn about our deafness and Deaf Culture including hearing aids and CIs (Cochlear Implant). So please have fun reading and posting all the threads here. I hope to see you around here.
