Hi i have just been fitted with a Oticon spirit zest HA, it,s my first so don't really know what to expect, i have mild hearing loss and have just lost a few frequencies, the Ha has been set by the Audi, it seems ok when im in the office or at home but i work on aircraft and when just the electrics are running(not the engine:)) my HA hisses quite badly, this seems to be the case when im outside .
can anyone tell me if this is normal or do i need to go back and have it re set ??

Thanks
Ady

Not sure. I don't think so. When I have my HAs on a 'T' setting for induction loops (e.g. room loops & neckloops) they can pick up electromagnetic fields from lights, dimmer switches, power cables, electric train rails, etc. To me the noise is more like a hum or buzzing noise. But if switch off my 'T' setting then the HAs don't pick up the magnetic interference and the buzzing disappears. I think you should go back to the audi and ask if they can get rid of the hissing.

Another thing to explore is whether your HAs are picking up wind noise when you're outside. It's most noticeable when you cycle or there's a strong wind and there's a whooshing noise in the HAs.

this usually happen when T-coil turned on. Some toggle switch have both t-coil and mike on. T-coil will pick up electric buzzing, hissing sound. So make sure the t-coil turned off. Only use it when using the phone.

Hi guys thanks for your replies, i will go back to the Adui and sak about the hiss, my only other question is as a new user i m not sure but i don't have a loop coil facility i think so not sure if i could turn it off

Regards

A HA is nothing more than a transmitter, so yes there could be an interegrated circuit that is picking up an interference. One way to check is whenever this happens on the job, try using your phone. If the phone is receiving interference, so will the HA.

I have a hearing aid that looks like your model and another thing, I have the same problem when I'm in a room that has a light switch, electric panel, thermosatat :)
to get rid of the hiss that comes through mine, I just push the volume control up or down and it stops.

Hi again thanks for all your replies and help, i have tried to turn the volume down to take away the hiss but im not sure if this is defeating the object of wearing the HA or will it still help with my hearing loss even though it's turned down

thanks

I do have Otican hearing aid. I have it in purple. Anyway. I dunno about that but when I am at work and there is so much noise. My HA changes to a different setting auto to cut out the background noise when ppl are talking to me. But now I am not noticed it anymore cuz I am used to it now. The HA picked up the certain sound that need to be heard. I do have a steamer for my HA almost like a bluetooth. It is so cool that I am able to listen to music with no background noise. :D
