Hi there:

Requesting good conversation and information between Oticon Alta Pro 2 versus Oticon Chili SP. In the past, I had Phonak Nadia V which worked well - had them for over 6 years. My hearing loss is around 70 to 120 db across all frequencies, with most of them being in the 70 to 90db, and a few in the 110 to 120db. My audi thought perhaps "louder" is not necessarily a good thing for my hearing loss as he thinks it'll just become more distorted and amplified if I were to go with the "chili" option and that the alta pro 2 would be more beneficial and functional to my hearing. What do you guys think - any constructive info you can pass or discuss about these 2 hearing aids in general?

Those hearing aids are really good and I was also offered the Chili last year when I was in the process of new hearing aids :)

I don't know the rationale of the audi. He should be able to program the Chili to your exact loss, thus not over amplifying or distorting.

Which Naida did you have? UP or SP?

Botts is right- The Chili pair can be programmed to match your hearing loss and everything else along with it like speech discrim scores etc. I have the Oticon Chili and my dB loss is in the profound range (anywhere from 85 to 105- most are in the 90s now I think.. maybe ONE Hz is at 85 dB...).

There is some distortion (for me but what do I know lol) but it really is the better pair... It is louder yes but it does seem clearer and I'm picking up some sounds I never heard before (found that out this weekend- I'll not go into that...) with the Oticon Sumo. I'm pretty much maxed out but I don't see why the audi can't program and reduce the noise level to fit with your comfort level.

Thanks Deaf Ducky - appreciate the information. I think I will go back tomorrow and request to try the Chili for a week and see which model I like better. So many options these days!
