OR Bear Cub charms police

I think he should have left the cub there for the mother to find. He could have monitored it from a distance. If the mother didn't show up in a couple days, then a wild animal rescue group could have picked it up. It's not a good idea for untrained people to take wild animal babies.

Problem is, the mother was more than likely killed, although they did say they don't know what happened to her. The cub was shivering when she was found; I'd be willing to bet a couple more days that cub would not have survived.

I agree with you , the cops are touching the bear with their bare hands and that is not good b/c they're leaving their smell on the cub . I saw this on the news and the cops are planning to release the cub into the wild . Other bears may reject the cub now b/c it smell like a 'human' . You always see wildlife expert where rubber gloves when they handling a wild animal they plan to put back into the wild.
 
I read some of comments from the article. Male bears will kill the cubs to induce mothers to go into heat so maybe mama died defending her cub or its a castaway if bear had alot cubs n was a spare. So anything is possible.

That is true , but the cops know nothing about how to care for wild animals so thy should had called in a wildlife expect right from start. They should not be playing with the cub like it a puppy if thy are planning on releasing them back into the wild .
