Anyobody ever forgot about the rat trap set in the ceiling months ago?

We once noticed a raccoon died in a blocked off fireplace when flies started to swarm out in spring. I also made sure that in buying the house we live in now, that there was no fireplace!

OH, I forgot about a mouse trap in the kitchen, behind the bread box. It was near dust when I remembered it.

My condo uses those horrible mice traps that had glue on them , was in the basement once and found a mouse with it mouth wide open and dead as can be !
It was right next the trash bins and no one got rid of it ! I didn't want to touch it so I called the condo office and had them take care of it . It was gross!

We set out one snap trap about two months ago or summat, checked it many times but nothing was catching
so we checked less and less until we totally forgot..
then there was this smell that was driving us crazy, we couldn't located where is it coming from :dunno2:
then the incoming flies for some reason gathered only in one specific place. that's how it hit us - OMG...
Yeah, it was gross. gotten cleanly by the neck, killed in an instant.
by the time we got to it, it was bloated like a balloon - I was even afraid a bit of accidental shake and it will blow all over my walls
an' furniture, :eek2: but thankfully nothing happened on the way to the deep deep bushes.

I don't like sticky traps either - so inhumane. either kill it right away or leave it alone.

I've heard of squirrels trying to overwinter in the chimneys, too.
it usually happens when the homeowner removes or fails to install a special mesh cap on top of the chimney.
sometimes there are cracks and holes forming for whatever reason, usually due to environmental factors and those could be openings
for all sort of critters. that's why the chimney should be looked after inside and outside periodically.
we clean our woodstove at least once a year with chimney sweep. sometimes twice a year, since we use it a lot.

I see chipmunks running up our drain pipes all the time , a neighbor said he can hear something running up his wall. That not good ! They like to chew on wires and this can cause a electrical fire.

What a lovely (disgusting) thread LOL.

Botts, when I bought my first house I had no idea that the fireplace was a trap for birds until I decided to remodel it one day. Let's say that wasn't too pretty what I found behind the whatchanaculit (that sits inside the fireplace.) We had to go up to the chimney to manually close off the opening (flue?). I now have a gas fireplace, so no more chimney.

Along about 1959-60 we were renting a house that had been converted into two units (upstairs & downstairs) we had the whole thing — living in the downstairs and storing things upstairs. The heat and electric for each unit were separate. Since there was no heat on upstairs that gas meter had been taken out. The downstairs was heated by a single floor furnace. With the building built with a crawl space animals such as rabbits found the opening in the foundation behind which both meters would be when both units were rented. They snuggled up to the floor furnace and we heard thumping when the would hit the furnace. I am not sure what they did to make sure all were out before covering the hole but after that we had no more problems (none got trapped and died under there).

That's true, that's why it is important to find and cover all the holes and the chimney with special chimney mesh cap.
Other rodents like to do that too. most animals do.

That would take common sense and the condo management doesn't have a lot of it ! The guy was just here and he couldn't even notice the storm window on the hallway door was not properly locked so bugs were getting in.

Most we've had is a Fox decided to have its babies in our garage :dunno2:

That is better than having skunks living under your deck ! When I first moved here all the decks were open underneath and OMG my whole condo would sink like hell
when a skunk sprayed . You had the best mouse trap , foxes .
